Vance W. Amory International Airport sits at Newcastle on the northern tip of Nevis, serving as the island's sole airport within the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. It offers a single hard-surfaced runway with tower service, making it a manageable but characterful Caribbean destination for the VFR pilot, with regional airline and charter traffic sharing the field.
Vance W. Amory International Airport is the only airport on the island of Nevis, located at Newcastle and operated by the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority. It is a small but active international field, handling scheduled regional services, private charters and general aviation traffic, and its single short runway set against the island's volcanic terrain gives it real character for a visiting simulator pilot.
The airport lies just west of the village of Newcastle, Nevis, within Saint James Windward Parish, on the northern coast of the island in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The airfield has one physical runway, orientated 10/28, with a hard surface and runway lighting for both directions. Runway 28 has a length of 3,990 ft and runway 10 a length of 3,429 ft. There is no ILS.
The airport is served by a control tower, with Tower on 120.5 MHz and Ground on 121.6 MHz. The runway is equipped with a precision approach path indicator (PAPI) to assist visual approaches; no instrument landing system is provided.
Pilots should expect to operate under the direction of the control tower, contacting Tower on 120.5 MHz before joining the circuit and coordinating with Ground on 121.6 MHz for taxi movements, given the airport's status as a controlled aerodrome.
The village of Newcastle, immediately to the east of the airfield, serves as the principal visual landmark for pilots identifying and joining the field on the northern coast of Nevis.
The airport began life as Bambooshay Airport before being renamed Newcastle Airport. In 2002 it was renamed again, this time in honour of Vance Amory, then Premier of Nevis, to mark the completion of a new and more modern terminal building, a new control tower, and an extension of the runway.
The airport continues to be operated by the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority and is equipped with a PAPI system to support visual approaches. It handles a mix of regional airline and charter operations, including scheduled services and charter flights, alongside general aviation traffic. An expansion project for the airport is in the pre-construction phase, with a formal groundbreaking targeted for early 2026 and works expected to proceed in phases so that flying operations can continue throughout construction.
