Clayton J Lloyd International Airport (TQPF/AXA) serves The Valley, the capital of Anguilla, and is the island's principal gateway for both scheduled and general aviation traffic. Named after the pilot who flew the first air services linking Anguilla with its neighbouring islands, the airfield offers a single hard-surfaced runway and a recently modernised terminal, making it a straightforward but characterful VFR destination in the northern Leeward Islands.

Overview

Clayton J Lloyd International Airport, known locally as Wallblake Airport, is operated by the Anguilla Air & Sea Ports Authority and lies at The Valley, Anguilla's capital. It is the island's main airport, handling connecting and charter services to and from neighbouring Caribbean islands and beyond, and is named in honour of Clayton Lloyd, who flew the first flights between Anguilla and its neighbouring islands. For a simulator pilot, it offers a compact Caribbean island approach with sea on several sides and a single runway aligned roughly northwest-southeast.

Airspace & Location

The airfield sits on Anguilla, a small island in the northern Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, close to the Dutch/French island of Sint Maarten. Approach control in the area is provided by Juliana Approach, reflecting the airport's proximity to and traffic coordination with Princess Juliana International Airport on Sint Maarten.

Runways

The airport has a single physical runway, 11/29, with a hard surface and runway lighting. Runway 29 measures 4,944 feet and Runway 11 measures 4,919 feet, the small difference reflecting displaced thresholds or measurement points at each end of the same strip. There is no ILS approach available at the field.

Radio & Navigation

Pilots should expect to work Juliana Approach on 128.95 MHz for approach and departure coordination in the area, with the tower frequency for Clayton J Lloyd itself on 118.5 MHz.

History

The airport is named after Clayton Lloyd, credited with flying the first air services connecting Anguilla to its neighbouring islands, a legacy referenced by Anguilla's governor at the opening of the airport's new terminal. The field was historically known as Wallblake Airport, a name still used locally alongside its formal title.

The Airfield Today

Clayton J Lloyd International Airport continues to handle scheduled and charter connections between Anguilla and other Caribbean islands, with onward connections reachable via regional hubs. A new multi-million-dollar terminal building officially opened in 2025, replacing the previous facility and described by the island's infrastructure minister as intended to modernise Anguilla's aviation infrastructure and meet growing air connectivity needs.
