A.N.R. Robinson International Airport (ICAO: TTCP, IATA: TAB) serves Scarborough on the island of Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago, and is one of the two airports operated by the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago. For a simulator pilot it offers a single long instrument runway with an ILS approach set against a compact Caribbean island backdrop, making for an engaging approach and landing exercise.

Overview

A.N.R. Robinson International Airport lies at Scarborough, Tobago, and is one of the two airports managed by the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT), the same body that runs Piarco International Airport on Trinidad. It is the principal gateway to Tobago and handles scheduled airline traffic, making it a useful and visually rewarding Caribbean destination for simulator pilots, combining an island approach with a single long, ILS-equipped runway.

Airspace & Location

The airport sits at Scarborough in western Tobago, at coordinates 11.1497 N, 60.8322 W, with a field elevation of 23 feet. As the island's main airport it is the focus of controlled airspace over western Tobago, with approach control provided from Piarco on the neighbouring island of Trinidad.

Runways

The airport has a single physical runway, 11/29, oriented broadly east-west, with a hard surface and runway lighting throughout. Runway 29 is listed at 8,983 feet and runway 11 at 8,019 feet; the 11 direction is equipped with an ILS approach, making it the primary instrument runway.

Radio & Navigation

Air traffic at the airport is coordinated through Piarco Approach on 119 MHz. Ground movements are handled on 121.7 MHz, and the tower operates on 118.4 MHz. Runway 11 is served by an ILS, providing an instrument approach for arrivals from that direction.

History

The airport is named after Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson, a former President and Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, and was formerly known as Crown Point Airport. It is operated today by the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, which also manages Piarco International Airport on Trinidad.

The Airfield Today

The airport continues to operate as Tobago's main air gateway under the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, handling scheduled airline services to and from the island. Its single ILS-equipped runway and airline-served status make it a capable and interesting Caribbean destination for simulator flights.
