Dushanbe International Airport is a joint civil and military aerodrome serving the Tajik capital, Dushanbe. It is the main hub for Somon Air and the home base for Tajik Air, both of which are headquartered on the airport property. For a simulator pilot, the field is notable for its long single runway set at a relatively high elevation in a mountain-fringed valley, and for the mix of regional and long-haul international traffic it handles.
The airport lies at Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, at an elevation of 2,556 feet above mean sea level, at coordinates 38.5436 N, 68.8247 E. It functions as a joint civil and military facility under the ownership of the Tajik government.
The airport has a single physical runway, 09/27, of hard surface construction and equipped with runway lighting. The declared length is 10,163 feet when used as runway 09, reducing to 8,842 feet when used as runway 27; runway 09 is served by an ILS approach.
Radio services at Dushanbe include Approach on 127.1 MHz, ATIS on 126.2 MHz, Ground on 121.7 MHz and Tower on 119.2 MHz. Runway 09 is equipped with an ILS for instrument approaches.
The airport was the scene of a dramatic episode in the Tajikistani Civil War on 7 September 1992, when President Rahmon Nabiyev and his entourage were ambushed en route to the field by opposition forces; Nabiyev was subsequently forced to resign at gunpoint in the terminal's VIP lounge, with tanks and troops stationed there throughout the incident. A new French-built terminal, capable of handling 1.5 million passengers a year, opened on 3 September 2014, financed in part by a long-term, low-interest loan of 20 million euros from France alongside a 19 million euro contribution from Tajikistan.

It serves as the main hub for Somon Air and the home base for Tajik Air, and hosts a range of other international carriers operating scheduled and charter services across Asia, the Middle East, Russia and Europe.
