Domodedovo International Airport is one of the three major airports serving Moscow, lying some 42 kilometres south-southeast of the Russian capital in Domodedovsky Urban Okrug, Moscow Oblast. It is the largest airport in Russia by passenger and cargo traffic and offers a sim pilot two very long, ILS-equipped parallel runways together with a full suite of ATC services.
Domodedovo (ICAO UUDD, IATA DME) is an international airport serving Moscow, situated in the town of Domodedovo, Moscow Oblast, about 42 kilometres south-southeast of the city centre. It is one of the three major Moscow airports alongside Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo, and is the largest airport in Russia in terms of passenger and cargo traffic, having been the second-busiest airport in the country and the eighth-busiest in Europe in 2017. For a simulator pilot it presents a demanding, high-capacity international field with long concrete runways, full radar and approach services, and heavy mixed traffic.
The airport sits within controlled airspace appropriate to a major international hub, positioned 42 kilometres south-southeast of central Moscow in Domodedovo, Moscow Oblast. It is one of four major airports serving the Moscow metropolitan area, sharing the region's airspace with Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo.
Domodedovo has two physical runways, both hard-surfaced and lit. Runway 14C/32C is 12,428 feet long. Runway 14R/32L is 11,443 feet long and is equipped with an ILS on both the 32L and 14R directions. Field elevation is 541 feet.
Radio services include Approach (APP) on 120.6 MHz, ATIS on 128.3 MHz, Clearance Delivery (CLD) on 123.75 MHz, Ground/Taxiing (GND) on 119 MHz, Transit (MISC) on 129.15 MHz, VOLMET (PMSV) on 127.875 MHz, Radar (RDR, callsign KRUG) on 127.7 MHz, Apron (RMP) on 130.6 MHz, and Tower (TWR) on 118.6 MHz. The airport is equipped with an ILS, and has ICAO Category F approval for new large aircraft operations along with ILS Category IIIA status.
Domodedovo underwent a major expansion programme beginning in 2003, with its runway, taxiways and parking areas enlarged and strengthened to gain approval for wide-body aircraft operations. In March 2009 the airport was announced as the first in Russia approved for new large aircraft (NLA) operations, including the Airbus A380, its operational areas meeting ICAO Category F standards. The airport also holds ILS Category IIIA status.
Domodedovo remains one of the busiest airports in Russia and a key hub for the Moscow region, handling substantial passenger and cargo traffic. It serves as the home base for several members of the flight simulation community.
