Kashgar Laining International Airport, known until August 2023 simply as Kashgar Airport, is a dual-use military-civilian field serving the oasis city of Kashgar (Kashi) in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang, in the far west of China. It is one of the principal air gateways to southern Xinjiang, combining a busy civilian airline schedule with a continuing military role, and its high field elevation and single long runway make it a distinctive stop for a simulator pilot flying in this remote part of the country.
The airport lies at Kashgar in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang, in far-western China, and functions as a dual-use military-civilian aerodrome under government operation.
The field has a single physical runway, 08/26, with a hard surface measuring 10,462 feet in length. Both directions are lit and served by an ILS, giving instrument approach capability at each end of the runway.
Tower is available on 118.5 MHz. The runway is equipped with an ILS for instrument approaches, though specific navaid identifiers and frequencies are not detailed in available sources.
The airfield traces its origins to the early 1950s, opening to traffic in 1953, with an official opening date recorded as 10 March 1954. In August 2023 the airport was renamed from Kashgar Airport to Kashgar Laining International Airport. Today Kashgar Laining International Airport is a large, busy airport handling substantial domestic passenger traffic, with carriers including Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, China Express, Chengdu Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Loong Air, Shandong Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Spring Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Tibet Airlines, Urumqi Air and West Air operating an extensive network of domestic routes, alongside some international and cargo services. As a dual-use military-civilian facility, it retains an active military role alongside its civil airline operations.
