Flight Score
Arrival
Reduce power earlier on final to bleed speed back to 71 kt before crossing the threshold.
What happened: You crossed the threshold at 92 kt, 21 kt above the 71 kt target.
Watch for: Airspeed, targeting 71 kt at the threshold.
See Arrival Landing
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 1,000 ft gate: gear still up.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,488 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 439 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Beechcraft Bonanza A36 taxied to runway 23 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde and commenced the take-off roll. The aircraft accelerated over a measured distance of 380 m, representing 15 % of the available runway, and lifted off at 79 kt. Ambient conditions were 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 247°, giving a 2 kt head-wind component and a 1 kt cross-wind component at the time of departure.
During the left-hand pattern entry the airplane flew 1 nm in 197 seconds before joining the cross-wind leg, which covered 3 nm in 80 seconds. The down-wind turn spanned 6 nm with an angle to the runway of 45 degrees and a measured deviation of 3.0 °. The subsequent down-wind leg extended 2 nm in 75 seconds, after which the aircraft established the final approach to runway 05 from the south-west on a heading of 52.0°, at 3 nm distance and 997 ft AGL. Weather remained unchanged with a temperature of 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 247°, and a 1 kt cross-wind component.
The landing was executed on runway 05, whose length is 2 493 m. The threshold speed was recorded at 93 kt, while touchdown occurred 444 m down the runway at a speed of 75 kt, slightly faster than ideal. The aircraft’s vertical speed at touchdown was a precise -20 fpm and the touchdown point was offset by 3.4 m from the centreline. The total landing roll measured 719 m, equivalent to 29 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was judged very good despite a 2 kt tail-wind and 1 kt cross-wind.
In the rollout phase the aircraft maintained excellent centreline tracking, confirming the previously noted very good alignment, and came to a complete stop within the remaining runway length.
Overall, the flight covered a distance of 13 nm, required approximately 10 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 16 kg of fuel.
The Beechcraft Bonanza A36 performed its final approach to runway 05 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde from the south-west, tracking a heading of 52.0° at 3 nm and 997 ft AGL. Local weather was 15 °C with wind 2 kt from 247°, a 1 kt crosswind component and a 2 kt tailwind component.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good threshold height, but the threshold speed was too high at 93 kt.
Touchdown occurred 444 m down the runway, a distance described as good, while the touchdown speed of 75 kt was a little fast. The touchdown rate was perfect at minus 20 fpm and the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 3.4 m from the centreline. Total landing distance measured 719 m, representing 29 % of the 2,493 m runway.
During rollout the alignment was very good.
Reduce the threshold speed and the touchdown speed to bring them within optimal limits, and refine centreline tracking to eliminate the 3.4 m offset.
