Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,782 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 160 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at KEAR Kearney Regional Airport, which took approximately 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. Departure roll ensued from runway 36, and the CRJ900 aircraft took off after traveling a distance of 1,476 meters, which was approximately 68% of the runway's length. The aircraft's liftoff speed was 153 knots.
Once airborne, the aircraft climbed from a starting altitude of 3,183 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 12,518 feet, increasing its altitude by 9,335 feet in just 4 minutes while covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. Subsequently, the enroute climb phase concluded, and the aircraft transitioned into a level cruise.
The cruise phase started 8 miles north-west of Wood River, Nebraska, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 37 nautical miles. Following this, the enroute descent phase began, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 12,941 feet above sea level to a final altitude of 1,920 feet, decreasing its altitude by 11,021 feet in 11 minutes while traveling a distance of 37 nautical miles. The aircraft then continued its descent.
Upon approaching KOLU Columbus Municipal Airport from the south-east, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 32 from a distance of 4 nautical miles, at an altitude of 471 feet above ground level and at a heading of 330°. The landing was carried out successfully, with the threshold height being described as good. The touchdown speed and rate were also satisfactory, coming in at 126 knots and -398 feet per minute, respectively.
The landing distance of 1,083 meters, equivalent to 61% of the runway's length, and the runway touchdown position being slightly off-center (6.3 meters from the centerline), were noted as being slightly outside the ideal values. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly off by 10.4 meters from the centerline. Taxiing to the parking from the runway took approximately 4 minutes, during which the aircraft covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance covered 95 nautical miles, took approximately 30 minutes to complete, and used 2,574 kilograms of fuel.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed on runway 32 at KOLU Columbus Municipal Airport. The final approach was executed from the southeast, aligning with a heading of 330.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 471 feet above ground level. The pilot achieved a good threshold height, indicating a well-controlled approach.
Upon reaching the runway threshold, the pilot maintained a speed of 133 knots, which is within the standard range for a safe landing. The touchdown distance was also satisfactory at 161 meters, and the touchdown speed of 126 knots was appropriate. The touchdown rate of -398 feet per minute was firm, showing a controlled descent.
However, there were some minor discrepancies during the landing. The airplane landed slightly off-centerline by 6.3 meters, which may require some correction. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.4 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 12°C and a light breeze of 11 knots coming from a northerly direction. The crosswind was minimal at 5 knots, while the headwind component was stronger at 10 knots, which the pilot effectively managed during the approach. Overall, the landing score was 94.7%, reflecting a mostly satisfactory performance, with some room for improvement in terms of alignment.
