Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,741 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,741 m of the 3,365 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 737 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 30L at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (KMSP), with a takeoff distance of 1,319 meters, which was 43% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 168 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of -24°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 309°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport. The climb took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 131 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,854 feet above sea level to 35,497 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,643 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles east of the Viroqua Airport (KVIO) in Wisconsin. This phase of the flight lasted for 61 minutes and covered a distance of 901 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 18 miles southwest of Steinhatchee, Florida. The descent took 26 minutes and covered a distance of 117 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,474 feet above sea level to 1,272 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,202 feet.
The final approach to the runway was made from the south, heading 2.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,251 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on runway 01L at the Tampa International Airport (KTPA), which had a length of 3,365 meters. The threshold height at 65 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 142 knots. The touchdown point was 321 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -220 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 13.9 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 13.9 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 1,660 meters, which was 49% of the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 38°.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,157 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 110 minutes. The aircraft used 7,824 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at KTPA Tampa International Airport, achieving an overall score of 85.4%. The final approach to runway 01L was initiated from the south, with a heading of 2.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,251 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with a touchdown speed of 133 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown point was located 321 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The threshold height at 65 feet agl was above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly high during the approach.
The threshold speed of 142 knots was deemed good, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing. The touchdown rate of -220 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slight bounce or oscillation during the touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at a direction of 38°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,660 meters was 49% of the available runway length, which was 3,365 meters. This suggests that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining to safely stop after touchdown. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 13.9 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have drifted slightly during the landing roll.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was also slightly misaligned by 13.9 meters from the centerline, suggesting that the pilot may have struggled to maintain a straight course during the landing roll. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some minor deviations from the intended landing parameters, which may be addressed through further training or adjustments to the aircraft's configuration.
