MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,323 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,066 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, a Black Square Starship with the registration N786BP, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KHYA Cape Cod Gateway Airport. This process took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 15, with a takeoff distance of 3,568 feet, which was 70% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 104 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 58°F and a wind speed of 32 knots at 239°. The crosswind component was 32 knots, while the tailwind component was 6 knots. After departing from KHYA, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead Hyannis, Massachusetts. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,072 feet above sea level to 29,107 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,036 feet, in just 8 minutes and covering a distance of 29 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 2 miles south of Chilmark, Massachusetts. This phase of the flight lasted for 86 minutes and covered a distance of 700 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 4 miles southwest of SC15 Airy Hall Airport Green Pond, South Carolina. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 30,261 feet above sea level to 347 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,914 feet, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 42 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28 at KSAV Savannah Hilton Head International Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 271.0° at 1 nautical mile and 314 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, which had a length of 9,323 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 118 knots. The touchdown point was 654 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 98 knots and a touchdown rate of -84 feet per minute, which was excellent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 68°F and a wind speed of 12 knots at 289°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots. The total landing distance was 4,325 feet, which was 46% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 776 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 113 minutes. The aircraft used 3,022 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, Black Square Starship N786BP, successfully landed at KSAV Savannah Hilton Head International Airport, achieving a score of 96.7%. The final approach to runway 28 was initiated from the east, with a heading of 271.0° at 1 nautical mile and 314 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated precise control and navigation skills, ultimately landing safely on the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 654 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal spot. However, the touchdown speed of 98 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -84 feet per minute (fpm) was also excellent, showcasing the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed and altitude effectively.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 68°F and a wind speed of 12 knots from 289°. The crosswind component was minimal at 4 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots, which helped to reduce the landing distance.
The total landing distance of 4,325 feet was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot executed a well-planned and controlled approach, taking into account the wind conditions and the aircraft's performance characteristics. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a safe stop.
Overall, the landing of Black Square Starship N786BP at KSAV Savannah Hilton Head International Airport was a success, with the pilot demonstrating excellent skills and judgment in navigating the aircraft through the final approach and landing phases.
