Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,337 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 390 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This particular flight was operated on an Airbus A321 aircraft, departing from runway 15 at LFSB EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Prior to departure, the taxiing from the parking to the runway took around 8 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles (nm). The local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and winds of 3 knots at 319 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot, a tailwind of 3 knots, and an overall wind speed of around 4 knots.
Upon departure, the takeoff distance covered 1,369 meters, which accounted for approximately 49% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 153 knots. Post-departure, the enroute climb commenced, and the aircraft rose from 1,931 feet above sea level (ft asl) to 36,321 ft asl, a significant increase of 34,390 ft in 20 minutes, while covering a distance of 99 nm. This climb took place while the aircraft was overhead Hesingue, Grand Est, France.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft transitioned into a level cruise, first starting 1 mile north of Esslingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, and lasting 5 minutes while covering a distance of 43 nm. The subsequent descent phase began 1 mile south of Buchen in Odenwald, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, and involved a brief decrease in altitude from 36,573 ft asl to 35,562 ft asl, an overall reduction of 1,011 ft in 2 minutes, while covering a distance of 13 nm.
The enroute descent resumed, this time commencing 2 miles west of Flieden, Hessen, Germany, where the aircraft descended from 35,280 ft asl to 3,394 ft asl, a considerable decrease of 31,885 ft in 20 minutes, while covering a distance of 120 nm. Thereafter, a brief level cruise was initiated over Hagenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany, lasting 2 minutes, while covering a distance of 4 nm.
As the flight progressed, another descent phase took place, beginning overhead ETNW Wunstorf Air Base, Wunstorf, Lower Saxony, Germany. The aircraft decreased its altitude from 2,911 ft asl to 1,550 ft asl, a reduction of 1,361 ft in 2 minutes, while covering a distance of 6 nm.
Upon arrival at EDDV Hannover Airport, the final approach to runway 09R was commenced from the west, with the aircraft heading at 93.0° at 4 nm and 1,368 feet above ground level (agl). The landing took place with a runway length of 2,337 meters, and good threshold height was maintained. The threshold speed of 135 knots was slightly above the target speed, and the touchdown distance of 391 meters was good.
However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was slightly fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -455 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned, deviating by 3.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions during landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C and winds of 7 knots at 70 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 6 knots.
Upon touchdown, the total landing distance covered 1,408 meters, which accounted for approximately 60% of the runway length. Following landing, the runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes, covering less than 1 nm. Throughout the entire flight, the aircraft traveled a total distance of
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at EDDV Hannover Airport, with an overall performance score of 96.0%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the west, heading 93.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,368 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach took place in good local weather conditions, with a temperature of 11°C and a moderate headwind of 6 knots.
The aircraft touched down on runway 09R at EDDV Hannover Airport, which has a length of 2,337 meters. The threshold height was suitable for a safe landing, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 135 knots. The touchdown distance of 391 meters was considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was a bit faster than the desired speed, indicating a slight overshot of the desired speed at touchdown.
The touchdown rate was reported as hard, coming in at -455 feet per minute (fpm). This may indicate some issues with the aircraft's descent rate control during the flare. Additionally, the aircraft was slightly misaligned with the runway centerline by 3.3 meters at touchdown, which might require further adjustments to the pilot's alignment control during approach.
The total landing distance was 1,408 meters, making up 60% of the runway's length. Despite this relatively high percentage, the runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft's spoilers and brakes were functioning as expected to prevent the aircraft from overrunning the runway.
Overall, the landing performance of the Airbus A321 at EDDV Hannover Airport was strong, with the aircraft exhibiting some minor deviations from the desired performance. However, the landing was safe and successful, with no major issues reported.
