Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,631 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,631 m of the 2,708 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 878 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320-ceo taxied from the parking area to runway 17R at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport in 13 minutes, covering 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 17R, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 165 kt and left the ground after traveling 1,897 m, which represented 49 % of the runway length; local weather was 22 °C with a wind of 5 kt from 140°, a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 4 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced 1 mile south-west of Ferno, Italy, with the aeroplane climbing from 1,714 ft asl to 32,010 ft asl, an altitude gain of 30,296 ft achieved in 17 minutes while covering 100 nm.
The first cruise segment began 2 miles south of Tanay, Switzerland, and lasted 14 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 99 nm at level altitude.
Descent started 1 mile south-west of Lux, France, with a reduction from 32,009 ft asl to 20,463 ft asl, a loss of 11,546 ft in 5 minutes while covering 36 nm.
A second cruise phase was initiated 1 mile north-west of Belan-sur-Ource, France, lasting 5 minutes and spanning 33 nm.
The next descent segment began overhead Saint-Benoit-sur-Seine, France, descending from 19,949 ft asl to 5,006 ft asl, a decrease of 14,943 ft in 12 minutes and covering 60 nm.
A brief cruise over Gandelu, Hauts-de-France, lasted 3 minutes and encompassed 11 nm.
The final descent segment started overhead Marcilly, Île-de-France, with the aircraft descending from 4,618 ft asl to 1,707 ft asl, a loss of 2,911 ft in 4 minutes while traveling 9 nm.
On final approach to runway 27R at LFPG Charles de Gaulle International Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,410 ft agl to 69 ft agl in 99 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 27R, which is 2,708 m long, the threshold height at 60 ft agl and the threshold speed of 136 kt were slightly above target; touchdown occurred 459 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 116 kt, with a hard touchdown rate of minus 450 fpm and a lateral deviation of 7.9 m from the centreline. Local conditions were 19 °C, wind 7 kt from 20°, a 7 kt cross-wind and a 3 kt tail-wind component.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,547 m, representing 57 % of the runway, and the aircraft’s ground track was misaligned by 16.3 m from the centreline during the rollout.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in a further 13 minutes, traversing another 2 nm.
In total, the flight covered 360 nm, required 86 minutes of airborne time, and consumed 2,991 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320ceo approached runway 27R at LFPG Charles de Gaulle International Airport in a stabilised configuration at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits. The aircraft descended from 1,410 ft agl to 69 ft agl in 99 seconds while the outside air temperature was 19 °C, wind was 7 kt from 20°, with a 7 kt cross-wind component and a 3 kt tail-wind component.
At threshold the height of 60 ft agl was slightly above target and the threshold speed of 136 kt was slightly above target. The flare proceeded from this point without further deviation noted.
Touchdown occurred 459 m beyond the designated touchdown zone with a speed of 116 kt that was judged good. The aircraft experienced a hard touchdown rate of minus 450 fpm and the touchdown point was offset 7.9 m from the centreline. Total landing distance was 1,547 m, representing 57 % of the 2,708 m runway length.
During rollout the aircraft drifted 16.3 m from the centreline, indicating a misalignment that persisted after touchdown.
Focus on maintaining centreline alignment through flare and rollout to reduce the 7.9 m touchdown offset and the 16.3 m rollout drift. Refine flare technique to moderate the hard minus 450 fpm rate while preserving the good 116 kt touchdown speed.
