Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,677 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,677 m of the 3,002 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 871 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at London Gatwick Airport, taking 7 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 26L, with a takeoff distance of 1,641 meters, which was 66% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 25°C temperature and a wind speed of 17 knots at 220 degrees. The crosswind was 10 knots, and the headwind was 13 knots. After departing from London Gatwick, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting overhead Charlwood in Surrey, England. The climb took 4 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,251 feet above sea level to 5,675 feet, an increase of 4,425 feet.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles north of Ashington in West Sussex, England, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time starting 6 miles south of Lancing in West Sussex, England. The climb took 19 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 6,062 feet to 35,446 feet, an increase of 29,383 feet.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile south of Ecorcei in Normandie, France, and lasted for 76 minutes, covering a distance of 557 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile southwest of Torrent in Comunitat Valenciana, Spain. The descent took 24 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 35,796 feet to 1,926 feet, a decrease of 33,870 feet.
The final approach to runway 23 at Región de Murcia International Airport was made from the northeast, heading 226.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,286 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 23, which had a length of 3,002 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 139 knots.
The touchdown point was 454 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 124 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was firm at -315 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 28°C temperature and a wind speed of 10 knots at 130 degrees, with a crosswind of 10 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,596 meters, which was 53% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 3 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 814 nautical miles, taking 138 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,518 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at LEMI Región de Murcia International Airport, achieving a score of 91.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 226.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,286 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft landed on runway 23, which has a length of 3,002 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 139 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown point was 454 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly longer than ideal but still within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 124 knots was also good, and the touchdown rate of -315 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent.
However, there was a slight deviation in the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft being 6.1 meters off-centerline. This may be attributed to the crosswind, which was blowing at 10 knots from a direction of 130°. The tailwind component was minimal, at 1 knot. The local weather conditions were warm, with a temperature of 28°C, and a moderate wind speed.
The total landing distance was 1,596 meters, which is 53% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating a well-executed approach and landing. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with some minor deviations that did not significantly impact the outcome.
