Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,177 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,177 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 64 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 28 at N94 Carlisle, where the aircraft, a Cessna Skyhawk, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 41 kt. The takeoff distance was 217 m, which accounted for 18% of the runway's length. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle wind blowing at 1 kt from a direction of 270 °.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand pattern, it did so from runway 28, with the entry distance being less than 1 nm in just 9 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn also took place on the left-hand side of the pattern, with the distance covered being less than 1 nm in 28 seconds. The pattern's downwind turn was a significant maneuver, with the aircraft covering a distance of 1 nm at an angle of 75.5 ° to the runway. The downwind leg itself was 2 nm long and took 54 seconds to complete.
The base leg turn was another critical phase of the flight, with the aircraft covering a distance of 2 nm at an angle of 51.0 ° to the runway. The base leg itself was less than 1 nm long and took 36 seconds to complete. The final turn, which brought the aircraft onto the final approach, was also less than 1 nm in distance and took 29 seconds to complete.
The final approach to runway 28 was made from the east, with the aircraft flying at a heading of 273.0 ° and an altitude of 452 ft above ground level (agl) at a distance of 1 nm from the runway. The landing itself was smooth, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 45 kt and a distance of 63 m. The touchdown rate was also good, at -184 fpm, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as those at the time of takeoff, with a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle wind blowing at 1 kt from a direction of 270 °. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 kt, while the headwind component was 1 kt. The total flight distance was 5 nm, and the flight took 5 minutes to complete, using a total of 3 kg of fuel.
The Cessna Skyhawk has successfully landed at N94 Carlisle, achieving a score of 95.3%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the east, heading 273.0° at a distance of 1 nautical mile and an altitude of 452 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, aligning the aircraft with the runway 28 at N94 Carlisle, which has a length of 1,177 meters.
Upon landing, the pilot demonstrated good control, achieving a threshold height that was satisfactory. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 49 knots. Despite this minor deviation, the pilot successfully managed the aircraft's descent, resulting in a touchdown distance of 63 meters, which was considered good. The touchdown speed of 45 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -184 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
The pilot's skill and experience were evident in the perfect runway touchdown alignment, which is a critical aspect of a safe and successful landing. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind of 1 knot at 270°. The crosswind component was negligible, and the headwind was minimal at 1 knot. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, resulting in a high score of 95.3%.
