Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 3,788 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 3,788 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,063 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft departed from runway 08 at PHHN Hana Airport, a small airfield located in the Hawaiian Islands. The takeoff roll was smooth, with the aircraft lifting off the ground at a speed of 61 kt after covering a distance of 1,273 ft, which represented 35% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 60 °F and a gentle tailwind of 2 kt.
As the aircraft climbed away from Hana Airport, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 520 ft to a cruising altitude of 4,659 ft over a distance of 16 nm. This climb phase was completed in 10 minutes, during which the aircraft gained an altitude of 4,139 ft. Following a brief level cruise phase, the aircraft commenced its enroute descent, losing 4,587 ft in altitude over a distance of 12 nm in just 7 minutes. The descent phase concluded with the aircraft preparing for its final approach to runway 07 at PHUP Upolu Airport.
The final approach was initiated from the west, with the aircraft flying a heading of 75.0° at an altitude of 95 ft above ground level. However, a go-around was necessary due to an unidentified reason. The aircraft subsequently landed on runway 07, which had a length of 3,794 ft. The touchdown speed was slightly higher than the target speed, at 47 kt, but the touchdown distance of 1,059 ft was within acceptable limits. The total landing distance was 2,173 ft, representing 57% of the available runway length. The aircraft's rollout alignment was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 27 ft. The flight had covered a total distance of 38 nm, consuming 33 lbs of fuel in the process.
The final approach to runway 07 at PHUP Upolu Airport from the west was initiated at 0 nm and 95 ft above ground level, heading 75.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was excessively high at 77 kt, exceeding the target. This may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate being too steep, resulting in a higher than desired touchdown speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was evaluated. The touchdown distance of 1,059 ft was within acceptable limits, indicating a good flare and touchdown technique. The touchdown speed of 47 kt was fast, but the touchdown rate of -156 fpm was good, suggesting a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 59 °F and a gentle tailwind of 2 kt, contributed to a smooth landing.
The rollout phase was evaluated, with the aircraft's alignment being slightly misaligned by 27 ft from the centreline. This deviation from the centreline may have been due to the pilot's response to the aircraft's speed and direction during the rollout. The total landing distance of 2,173 ft, accounting for 57% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. Overall, the landing performance scored 88.5%, indicating a good but not exceptional landing.
