MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,579 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,579 ft of the 13,117 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 3,073 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 35L at LTFM İstanbul Airport. The takeoff distance was 6,390 feet, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 177 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 45°F and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 290°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 2 miles northwest of LTFM İstanbul Airport, Arnavutköy, and ascended from an altitude of 1,115 feet above sea level to 35,906 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,790 feet, in 19 minutes and covering a distance of 108 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 12 miles northeast of Goynuk, Bolu, Turkey, and lasted for 112 minutes, covering a distance of 892 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 7 miles southeast of Al Hayy, Muhafazat Wasit, Iraq, and descended from 35,935 feet above sea level to 1,481 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,454 feet, in 25 minutes and covering a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 32 at ORMM Basra International Airport was made from the southeast, heading 318.0°, at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,466 feet above ground level. However, a go-around was initiated at an altitude of 714 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 32, which had a length of 13,117 feet. The threshold height was significantly above the target, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 153 knots.
The touchdown point was 1,498 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 138 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -425 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 18 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 5,104 feet, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,142 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 193 minutes. The aircraft used 18,465 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at ORMM Basra International Airport, but the landing was not without some notable issues. The final approach to runway 32 was initiated from the south east, heading 318.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,466 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 1,498 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot.
The aircraft's speed at touchdown was 138 knots, which was a little faster than the target speed. This resulted in a hard touchdown rate of -425 feet per minute (fpm), which may have caused some discomfort for the passengers. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 18 feet from the centerline, which could have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the final approach.
The threshold height at 93 feet agl was significantly above the target, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 153 knots. This suggests that the aircraft may have been descending too slowly or may have been too high during the final approach, resulting in a higher-than-expected touchdown speed.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind component, which should have made the landing relatively straightforward.
Despite the issues with the landing, the aircraft's runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilots were able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. The total landing distance was 5,104 feet, which was 39% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but it is not excessively long, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance from the end of the runway. Overall, while the landing was not perfect, it was still a safe and successful operation.
