A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,542 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,542 m of the 1,859 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 606 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 13L at Cologne Bonn Airport (EDDK), with a takeoff distance of 1,286 meters, which was 34% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 24°C temperature and a wind speed of 12 knots at 120°. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 11 knots. After departing from Cologne Bonn Airport, the enroute climb started 1 mile west of Lohmar, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,334 feet above sea level to 23,697 feet above sea level, an increase of 22,363 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 57 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles east of Hamm, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 37 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 2 miles west of Rodinghausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, and descended from 23,688 feet above sea level to 2,998 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,690 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 78 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 1 mile north of Wohnste, Lower Saxony, Germany, and lasting for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. It then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 1 mile northeast of Apensen, Lower Saxony, Germany, and lasting for 1 minute, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport (EDHI) was made from the southwest, heading 52.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,264 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 05, which had a length of 1,859 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 147 knots.
The touchdown point was 195 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 139 knots and a touchdown rate of -169 feet per minute, both of which were good. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 18°C temperature and a wind speed of 11 knots at 100°, with a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 7 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,467 meters, which was 79% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 189 nautical miles, and the flight took 43 minutes, using 4,703 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A330 aircraft successfully landed at Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport (EDHI) on runway 05, achieving a high score of 96.0%. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 52.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being satisfactory. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 147 kt, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal landing conditions. The touchdown point was located 195 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 139 kt was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -169 feet per minute (fpm) was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 18°C and wind speeds of 11 kt at 100°. The crosswind component was 8 kt, while the headwind component was 7 kt, which is relatively minor and did not significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,467 meters was 79% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and precision during the final approach and touchdown phases.
