MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,184 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,419 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 24 at KPNE Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The aircraft, a Honda HA420, accelerated down the runway, covering a distance of 2,033 feet, which was 29% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 127 knots, marking the start of the takeoff phase.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 53°F temperature and a 10-knot headwind from a direction of 230°. The enroute climb started overhead KPNE, with the aircraft ascending from 1,190 feet above sea level to 18,445 feet, a vertical increase of 17,255 feet, in just 6 minutes. This climb phase covered a horizontal distance of 17 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started overhead Rutledge, Pennsylvania. This phase lasted for 4 minutes and covered a distance of 19 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb phase, this time from 18,968 feet to 25,044 feet, an increase of 6,076 feet, in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The next level cruise phase started 3 miles north of Elkton, Maryland, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent phase, which started overhead Charlestown, Maryland. The descent from 25,016 feet to 249 feet, a decrease of 24,767 feet, took 20 minutes, covering a distance of 66 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 19 at KDCA Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 175.0° at an altitude of 221 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 19, which had a length of 7,184 feet. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 50°F temperature and a 19-knot headwind from a direction of 199°.
The touchdown speed was 87 knots, which was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -106 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the total landing distance was 2,739 feet, which was 38% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in just 1 minute. The total flight distance was 118 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 38 minutes. The aircraft used 106 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Honda HA420 aircraft successfully landed at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) on runway 19, achieving a high score of 98.4%. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 175.0° at an altitude of 221 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft's approach and landing performance were impressive, with a good threshold height and speed of 101 knots. The touchdown distance of 1,415 feet was also within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 87 knots was well within the recommended range, and the touchdown rate of -106 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, suggesting a gentle and stable landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 50°F and wind speeds of 19 knots at 199°. The crosswind component was relatively low at 7 knots, while the headwind component was 17 knots, which helped to reduce the aircraft's ground speed and make the landing more manageable.
The total landing distance of 2,739 feet was 38% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, and the pilot maintained control throughout the landing roll.
Overall, the Honda HA420's landing performance at KDCA was exceptional, with a high score and impressive metrics across various parameters. The aircraft's ability to handle the local weather conditions and maintain a smooth and controlled descent was a testament to its design and handling characteristics.
