MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 305 m and 152 m above the runway.
At the 305 m gate: gear still up, no landing flap set and off the centreline.
At the 152 m gate: gear still up, no landing flap set, off the runway's 3° glideslope, off the centreline and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,732 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 851 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a PC-12, then departed from runway 18 at Lausanne-Blécherette Airfield (LSGL). The takeoff distance was 412 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 76 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 229 degrees. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was also 4 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead Prilly in the Canton de Vaud, Switzerland. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 764 meters above sea level to 6,465 meters above sea level, an increase of 5,701.3 meters, in 13 minutes and covering a distance of 52 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles east of Frutigen in the Canton de Berne, Switzerland. This phase lasted for 14 minutes and covered a distance of 74 nautical miles. The enroute descent then began 3 miles west of Savognin in the Kanton Graubunden, Switzerland. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 6,395 meters above sea level to 1,901 meters above sea level, a decrease of 4,493.3 meters, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 48 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 21 at Samedan Airport (LSZS) was made from the north-east, with a heading of 205.0 degrees at an altitude of 1 nautical mile and 189.7 meters above ground level. The landing was made on runway 21, which had a length of 1,732 meters. The threshold height was excessively high at 32.4 meters above ground level, while the threshold speed was also excessively high at 120 knots. The touchdown point was 371 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 95 knots, which was fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -0.9 meters per second.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -2 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 210 degrees. The crosswind component was 0 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,344 meters, which accounted for 78% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 179 nautical miles, which was covered in 47 minutes. The aircraft used 169 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft in question, a PC-12, has completed a landing at LSZS Samedan Airport, with a final approach from the north east. The aircraft was at an altitude of 189.7 meters above ground level (agl) and 1 nautical mile from the runway at a heading of 205.0°. The landing was conducted on runway 21, which has a length of 1,732 meters.
Upon analysis of the landing, it appears that the aircraft did not meet the target threshold height, being excessively high at 32.4 meters agl. Additionally, the threshold speed was also excessively high at 120 knots. The touchdown point was located 371 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft touched down farther down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 95 knots was also faster than the desired speed, although the touchdown rate of -0.9 meters per second was considered good.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.1 meters, which may have contributed to the touchdown point being beyond the designated zone. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of -2°C and a wind of 5 knots from 210°. The crosswind component was negligible, while the headwind component was 5 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's approach and touchdown.
The total landing distance of 1,344 meters was 78% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft did not utilize the full length of the runway. However, the runway rollout alignment was considered very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was not entirely satisfactory, with several areas for improvement identified, including reducing the threshold speed and touchdown speed, and improving the alignment of the touchdown point with the designated zone.
