Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: wings not level and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 848 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 848 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 149 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Beechcraft A36 Bonanza taxiing from the parking area to the runway at I19 Greene County/Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport. This process took approximately 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 07, with a takeoff distance of 889 meters, which accounted for 65% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 71 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 16°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°. The crosswind was negligible, and there was a slight tailwind of 1 knot. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northeast of KGDK Greene Co Jackson Regl Dayton, where the aircraft ascended from 1,602 feet above sea level to 2,803 feet, an increase of 1,200 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase started overhead KGDK Greene Co Jackson Regl Dayton and lasted for 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began approximately 1 mile northwest of Bellbrook, where the aircraft descended from 3,003 feet above sea level to 1,315 feet, a decrease of 1,688 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at I73 Moraine Air Park was made from the east, with a heading of 255.0° at 1 nautical mile and 579 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 26 was successful, with a runway length of 848 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was 77 knots. The touchdown distance was 148 meters, and the touchdown speed was 66 knots, both of which were considered good. The touchdown rate was perfect at -16 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was also perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as during the takeoff, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°. The crosswind was negligible, and there was a slight headwind of 1 knot. The total flight distance was 14 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 8 minutes. The aircraft used approximately 5 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Beechcraft A36 Bonanza successfully landed at I73 Moraine Air Park, achieving a remarkable score of 99.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 255.0° at a distance of 1 nautical mile and an altitude of 579 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot demonstrated excellent control and precision during the final approach, setting up for a smooth touchdown on runway 26.
The runway at I73 Moraine Air Park has a length of 848 meters, providing a suitable surface for the Beechcraft A36 Bonanza to land safely. The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 77 knots was also well within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed effectively.
The touchdown distance of 148 meters was good, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft's descent and was able to bring it to a stop within a reasonable distance. The touchdown speed of 66 knots was also good, suggesting that the pilot had managed to slow the aircraft down smoothly and safely. The touchdown rate of -16 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was brought to a stop quickly and smoothly, without any excessive deceleration.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and a slight headwind of 1 knot, which the pilot was able to manage effectively. Overall, the landing was a textbook example of precision and control, with the pilot demonstrating excellent skills and judgment throughout the approach and touchdown.
