Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 4,991 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,991 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,866 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a TBM 930, then departed from runway 23 at KSHN Sanderson Field, with a takeoff distance of 1,045 meters, which accounted for 69% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 125 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 349 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 2 miles southwest of KSHN Sanderson Field, and climbed from an altitude of 1,298 feet above sea level to 6,874 feet above sea level, an increase of 5,576 feet, in just 4 minutes and covering a distance of 15 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles north of Satsop, Washington, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The enroute descent then began 1 mile north of Central Park, and the aircraft descended from an altitude of 7,039 feet above sea level to 1,812 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,227 feet, in just 3 minutes and covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24 at KHQM Bowerman Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 255.0 degrees, at an altitude of 1,752 feet above ground level, and 1 nautical mile from the runway. The landing was made on runway 24, which had a length of 1,521 meters. The threshold height at 143 feet above ground level was excessively over target, while the threshold speed was slightly above target at 90 knots.
The touchdown point was 141 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 78 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -133 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.7 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 110 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,014 meters, which accounted for 67% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 20.5 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 39 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 23 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 72 kilograms.
The TBM 930 aircraft successfully landed at KHQM Bowerman Airport, but with some minor deviations from the ideal approach and landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 255.0° at 1 nm and 1,752 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 24, which has a length of 1,521 meters.
The threshold height at 143 ft agl was significantly higher than the target, indicating that the aircraft was not properly configured for landing. However, the threshold speed of 90 kn was only slightly above the target, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control and adjust the approach speed accordingly. The touchdown point was 141 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 78 kn was a bit faster than the ideal speed, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -133 fpm, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.7 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 6 kn from 110°. The crosswind component was 3 kn, while the tailwind component was 5 kn. The total landing distance was 1,014 meters, which is 67% of the runway length.
During the rollout, the aircraft was misaligned by 20.5 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the landing path. Overall, the landing was successful, but with some minor deviations from the ideal parameters. The pilot's ability to adjust the approach speed and maintain control during the landing was evident, but there is room for improvement in terms of precision and alignment.
