Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: glideslope 2.0° against the runway's 3°.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 798 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 798 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 21 m short of the threshold. The 1.74 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Phenom 300E taxied from its parking position to the departure runway in 4 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
Departing from runway 25 at SAWG Piloto Civil N. Fernández Airport, the aircraft rolled for a take-off distance of 1,227 m, representing 35 % of the runway, and lifted off at 127 kt. Ambient conditions were 4 °C with a wind of 20 kt from 080°, a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 20 kt tail-wind component.
Climb commenced overhead SAWG, ascending from 1,060 ft asl to 42,659 ft asl-a gain of 41,598 ft-over 13 minutes while covering 80 nm.
The first cruise segment began 55 mi east of Rio Gallegos and lasted 27 minutes, during which 224 nm were flown at level altitude.
Descent started 15 mi south-west of SFNI New Island, dropping from 42,603 ft asl to 3,856 ft asl, a loss of 38,748 ft in 19 minutes and covering 133 nm.
A short cruise followed 1 mi west of SFSR Salvador Airport, lasting 3 minutes and spanning 14 nm.
The next descent began 12 mi east of SFSR, reducing altitude from 3,845 ft asl to 2,914 ft asl-a decrease of 931 ft-in 2 minutes while covering 6 nm.
A further cruise segment originated 15 mi north of Stanley, lasting 3 minutes and encompassing 9 nm.
Descent resumed 7 mi north of SFAL Port Stanley Airport, descending from 2,658 ft asl to 888 ft asl, a loss of 1,770 ft in 3 minutes over 6 nm.
The final cruise leg started 2 mi north of SFAL, continued for 6 minutes and covered 10 nm.
During final approach to runway 27 at SFAL Port Stanley Airport, the aircraft descended from 786 ft agl to 48 ft agl in 103 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 27 (length 798 m) was achieved with a threshold speed of 111 kt. Touchdown occurred beyond the midpoint of the runway, using more than 50 % of the available length; the touchdown speed was 101 kt and the vertical rate was hard at minus 418 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 7.5 m from the centreline. Local weather was 3 °C with a wind of 18 kt from 179°, a cross-wind of 18 kt and no head-wind component.
The rollout distance measured 837 m, equal to 105 % of the runway, and the aircraft’s path was slightly misaligned by 9.7 m from the centreline.
In total, the flight covered 487 nm, required 85 minutes of elapsed time and consumed 338 kg of fuel.
The Phenom 300E conducted the final approach to runway 27 at SFAL Port Stanley Airport, descending from 786 ft AGL to 48 ft AGL in 103 seconds while scoring on the stabilisation gates. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 3 C, wind 18 kt from 179 deg, with a cross-wind component of 18 kt and no head-wind.
At the threshold the aircraft displayed a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 111 kt, meeting the required parameters for the flare segment.
Touchdown occurred well beyond the intended aim point, using more than 50 % of the available runway. The aircraft touched down at 101 kt, described as a little fast, with a hard touchdown rate of minus 418 fpm, and the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 7.5 m from the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 837 m, representing 105 % of the 798 m runway, and the aircraft remained slightly misaligned during rollout, deviating 9.7 m from the centreline.
To improve future performance, aim to achieve touchdown within the first 300 m (approximately 1 000 ft) of the runway to reduce total landing distance, and adjust the approach speed to be closer to the target VREF to lessen touchdown speed and rate, which will also aid in maintaining better centreline alignment.
