Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,706 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,706 m of the 2,693 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 637 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 25 at EPKK Kraków John Paul II International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,564 meters, which accounted for 68% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 15 °C and wind speeds of 8 knots at 339 degrees. The crosswind was 8 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead Morawica, a town in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland, and continued to an altitude of 32,794 feet above sea level. This climb, which covered 134 nautical miles, took 23 minutes and involved an increase of 30,973 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began overhead Koldin in the Pardubicky kraj region of the Czech Republic. This phase lasted for 16 minutes and covered 119 nautical miles. The descent phase started overhead Stedra in the Karlovarsky kraj region of the Czech Republic and continued to an altitude of 2,334 feet above sea level. This descent, which covered 83 nautical miles, took 21 minutes and involved a decrease of 30,009 feet.
The final approach to runway 28 at EDDN Nuremberg Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 279.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,289 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 28, which had a length of 2,693 meters, was successful, with the threshold height being well above the target. The threshold speed was also good at 140 knots.
However, the touchdown point was 219 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 133 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -421 feet per minute. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 12 °C and wind speeds of 8 knots at 280 degrees, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 8 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,623 meters, which accounted for 60% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took approximately 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 343 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 75 minutes. The aircraft used 3,483 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Nuremberg Airport (EDDN) on runway 28, achieving a score of 87.1%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 279.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,289 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft's approach to the runway was satisfactory, with a threshold height that was well above the target, indicating a safe margin for landing. The threshold speed was also good, reaching 140 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing. However, the touchdown speed of 133 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to a harder touchdown.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's rate of descent was -421 feet per minute (fpm), which is considered hard. This may have been due to the slightly fast touchdown speed. Fortunately, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 12°C and a gentle headwind of 8 knots from 280°. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 knots. These conditions likely contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance of 1,623 meters was 60% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, while there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and rate of descent, the Airbus A321 aircraft landed safely and efficiently at Nuremberg Airport, achieving a respectable score of 87.1%.
