Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,074 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 276 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, EDDH. This process took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 15, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,600 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 183 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 3°C temperature and winds of 8 knots at 110 degrees. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Fuhlsbuettel, a suburb of Hamburg, Germany. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,043 feet above sea level to 34,112 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,069 feet, in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 77 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 1 mile west of Bad Zwischenahn - Rostrup Airfield, EDDX. This phase of the flight lasted 107 minutes and covered a distance of 177 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 18 miles north of Nieuw-Haamstede, a town in the Netherlands. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 34,325 feet above sea level to 1,878 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,447 feet, in 37 minutes and covering a distance of 140 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25 at London Luton Airport, EGGW, was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 254.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,353 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 25, which had a length of 2,074 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 128 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 273 meters, and the touchdown speed was 127 knots, which was also satisfactory. The touchdown rate was firm at -399 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 12°C temperature and winds of 6 knots at 210 degrees. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was also 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,279 meters, which was 62% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 2 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 404 nautical miles and took 92 minutes to complete. The aircraft used 3,592 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at EGGW London Luton Airport, achieving a high score of 96.4%. The final approach to runway 25 was conducted from the east, with a heading of 254.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,353 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 128 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 273 meters, which is within the expected range. The touchdown speed was also good at 127 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm at -399 feet per minute (fpm). This indicates that the aircraft touched down smoothly and maintained a stable descent rate. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating excellent control and precision during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 210°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was also 5 knots, resulting in a negligible wind effect on the aircraft's approach and landing. The total landing distance was 1,279 meters, which is 62% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled and landed smoothly.
During the rollout, the aircraft maintained a very good alignment with the runway, demonstrating excellent control and stability. Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft performing well in terms of speed, distance, and alignment. The high score of 96.4% reflects the pilot's skill and expertise in executing a safe and efficient landing.
