Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,253 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,253 m of the 3,806 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 326 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Palonegro Airport, taking 5 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. Departure roll took place on runway 17, with a takeoff distance of 1,172 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 136 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Palonegro Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 21°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 149°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind was 7 knots. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 4,571 feet above sea level to 11,372 feet, an increase of 6,801 feet in just 4 minutes and covering 14 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 6 miles south of Piedecuesta, lasting 2 minutes and covering 8 nautical miles. However, the aircraft soon began another climb, this time from 11,794 feet to 22,370 feet, an increase of 10,576 feet in 5 minutes and covering 29 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 6 miles southwest of Ocamonte, lasting 2 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began a descent from 22,863 feet to 18,624 feet, a decrease of 4,239 feet in 5 minutes and covering 33 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started again 1 mile west of Sutamarchan, lasting 14 minutes and covering 75 nautical miles. However, the aircraft soon began another descent, this time from 18,389 feet to 9,633 feet, a decrease of 8,756 feet in 8 minutes and covering 32 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 14R at El Dorado International Airport was made from the northwest, heading 127.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,267 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway length of 3,806 meters, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was also good at 131 knots, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 knots. The touchdown rate was very hard at -595 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.9 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 12°C temperature and a wind speed of 9 knots at 70°. The crosswind was 8 knots, while the headwind was 5 knots. The total landing distance was 2,177 meters, accounting for 57% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 29.0 meters from the centreline. Taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 212 nautical miles, taking 52 minutes and using 2,061 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at SKBO El Dorado International Airport, achieving an overall score of 84.1%. The final approach to runway 14R was initiated from the northwest, heading 127.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,267 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a threshold speed of 131 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly above the optimal range, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing speed. The touchdown distance of 327 meters was also deemed good, but the touchdown rate of -595 feet per minute (fpm) was considered very hard, suggesting a potentially rough landing experience for passengers.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 6.9 meters, which may have contributed to the subsequent rollout alignment issues. The local weather conditions at the time of landing included a temperature of 12°C, a wind speed of 9 knots at 70°, resulting in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance of 2,177 meters was 57% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned from the centreline by 29.0 meters, which may have been a result of the initial touchdown position being off-centre.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas for improvement, including the touchdown speed and rate, as well as the runway rollout alignment. These issues may be addressed through further training and refinement of the aircraft's approach and landing procedures.
