Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,993 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 315 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 16 at UAFG Cholpon-Ata Airport, where the aircraft, a TBM 930, took off with a takeoff distance of 361 meters, which accounted for 21% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 81 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot at 32 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind and tailwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead UAFG Cholpon-Ata Airport. The climb was from an initial altitude of 6,301 feet above sea level to a final altitude of 10,112 feet, an increase of 3,812 feet in just 4 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. This marked the end of the enroute climb phase.
The enroute level cruise phase followed, where the aircraft maintained a steady altitude of 10,112 feet for 13 minutes, covering a distance of 35 nautical miles. This phase was initiated 12 miles east of Cholpon-Ata.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started 10 miles west of Karakol. The descent was from an initial altitude of 11,154 feet above sea level to a final altitude of 6,329 feet, a decrease of 4,824 feet in just 5 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10 at UAFP Karakol Airport was initiated from the west, with the aircraft heading 103.0 degrees at an altitude of 723 feet above ground level and a distance of 2 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing was made on runway 10, which had a length of 1,993 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was excessively high at 88 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 312 meters, but the touchdown speed was too fast at 80 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -292 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot at 86 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind and a headwind.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking just 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 61 nautical miles, which was covered in 24 minutes, and the aircraft used 68 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The TBM 930 aircraft successfully landed at UAFP Karakol Airport, achieving a score of 94.8%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 103.0° at 2 nautical miles and 723 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 10, which has a length of 1,993 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was excessively high at 88 knots. This indicates that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to reduce the touchdown speed. The touchdown distance was good at 312 meters, which is a reasonable distance considering the runway length.
However, the touchdown speed was reported as too fast at 80 knots. This may have been due to the pilot not fully utilizing the aircraft's descent capabilities or not fully extending the landing gear. The touchdown rate was fair at -292 feet per minute (fpm), which is a moderate rate of descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach to the runway. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 14°C and a light wind of 1 knot at 86°. There was no crosswind, and the aircraft had a slight headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 771 meters, which is 39% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot was able to control the aircraft effectively during the landing. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and landing phases. However, there is room for improvement in terms of reducing the touchdown speed and fully utilizing the aircraft's descent capabilities.
