Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,985 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 470 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight was conducted in a Cessna C172 aircraft from Valencia Airport (LEVC) to Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (LEAL). The aircraft began taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a distance of less than 1 nautical mile, which took less than 1 minute.
Departure commenced with a runway 30 roll at LEVC, with a takeoff distance of 485 meters, accounting for only 17% of the total runway length. The lift-off speed was 69 knots, and the aircraft departed into local weather conditions of 16°C and a gentle headwind of 1 knot at a 269-degree direction, with crosswind being zero.
The initial enroute climb started 1 mile west of LEVC, rising from an initial altitude of 1,257 feet above sea level (asl) to 3,958 ft asl, an increase of 2,701 feet in 4 minutes, while covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The aircraft continued to fly level cruise for 3 minutes north-east of Monserrat, covering 7 nautical miles, before embarking on another climb at Alfarp, reaching an altitude of 6,381 ft asl, an increase of 1,952 feet in 5 minutes, while covering 10 nautical miles.
Further enroute level cruise then occurred above Alberic, lasting 12 minutes and covering 25 nautical miles. The descent commenced 2 miles south-west of Alcoy, decreasing in altitude from 7,895 ft asl to 4,888 ft asl, a fall of 3,006 feet in 5 minutes, while covering 12 nautical miles.
Yet another enroute level cruise was conducted 2 miles north-west of LEMU Muchamiel Airfield, lasting 3 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles. The descent then started 2 miles north-west of Alicante, from 4,285 ft asl to 578 ft asl, a decrease of 3,708 feet in 7 minutes, while covering 7 nautical miles.
The aircraft prepared to land on runway 28 at LEAL from the east, heading 277.0° at 1 nautical mile, with an altitude of 474 feet above ground level (agl). A significant issue was the excessive threshold height of 151 ft agl, although the threshold speed was within target, at 59 knots.
The total landing distance was 900 meters, which accounted for only 30% of the runway length. However, issues arose with touchdown speed, being good at 56 knots, but the touchdown rate was heavy at -613 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 15.5 meters from the centreline.
Following the landing, taxiing to the parking area took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance covered was 75 nautical miles, consuming 23 kilograms of fuel, and taking 49 minutes to complete.
The Cessna C172 aircraft landed at LEAL Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, touching down on runway 28. The approach was initiated from the east, with a bearing of 277.0 degrees at a distance of 1 nautical mile and an altitude of 474 feet above ground level. The pilot demonstrated good control of the aircraft's speed, achieving a threshold speed of 59 knots, which is within acceptable limits.
However, there were some discrepancies in the landing's execution. Notably, the threshold height was excessively over the target, with the aircraft descending to 151 feet above ground level when the target height was much lower. Furthermore, the touchdown rate was significantly heavy, with a descent rate of -613 feet per minute, which may indicate an aggressive approach or a lack of control.
Another issue raised during the landing was the significant misalignment of the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft deviating from the runway centerline by 15.5 meters. Moreover, during the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment was also slightly off-center, by 13.5 meters.
Considering the local weather conditions, the temperature was 16 degrees Celsius, and the wind speed was a mere 1 knot from a direction of 269 degrees. This meant that there was a very minimal headwind component and no crosswind to consider. As such, it appears that the weather conditions did not significantly impact the landing.
In conclusion, the overall performance of the aircraft during landing was a mixed bag. While the pilot demonstrated good control over the aircraft's speed, the touchdown rate and alignment were less-than-ideal, resulting in a 74.3% score.
