Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,801 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,801 m of the 3,516 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 933 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the Boeing 777-300 began with a 6-minute taxi from the parking area to the runway at RCTP Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The departure roll on runway 23L covered 1,688 meters, 51% of the runway, with a liftoff speed of 187 knots. The local weather at departure was 31 °C with a 2 knot wind at 280°, resulting in a 2 knot crosswind and headwind.
The enroute climb started at 1 mile west of RCGM Taoyuan Air Base Taoyuan (Dayuan), climbing from 1,042 ft asl to 30,994 ft asl over 157 nm in 22 minutes. The enroute level cruise then began 85 miles north of Yonakuni (Okinawa, Japan) lasting 114 minutes and covering 976 nm. Another enroute climb began 7 miles southeast of RJAZ Kozushima Airport Kozushima (Tokyo Prefecture, Japan), reaching 32,662 ft asl over 14 nm in 2 minutes. The subsequent level cruise lasted 169 minutes and covered 1,380 nm.
Further climbs and descents occurred during the flight, with altitude changes and distances covered detailed in the report. The final approach to runway 28R at KSFO San Francisco International Airport from the southeast resulted in a landing with good parameters, including a touchdown speed of 131 knots and a touchdown rate of -194 fpm.
The total flight distance was 5,753 nm, taking 714 minutes and using 99,045 kg of fuel. The landing distance was 1,713 m, 49% of the runway, with a slightly misaligned touchdown position. The runway rollout alignment was deemed very good, and the taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 2 minutes.
The Boeing 777-300 established a final approach to runway 28R at KSFO from the southeast, tracking a heading of 298.0° at 4 nm and 1,298 ft agl. Local conditions were temperature 16 °C with wind 6 kt from 280°, providing a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 6 kt head-wind.
Threshold height was reported as good and the aircraft maintained a threshold speed of 144 kt, which was also judged good.
Touchdown occurred 509 m beyond the designated touchdown zone; the aircraft’s speed at touchdown was 131 kt, rated good, and the vertical rate was minus 194 fpm, also good. Lateral alignment at touchdown was slightly off centreline by 4.5 m.
The total landing distance measured 1,713 m, representing 49 % of the 3,516 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
Reduce the touchdown point distance to keep the landing within the touchdown zone and tighten lateral alignment to centreline for a more precise touchdown. Minor refinements in these areas will help convert the solid 89.2 % score into an even higher performance.
