Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,991 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 517 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 16L at RJTT Tokyo Haneda International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,399 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 150 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 16 knots from a direction of 189 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 12 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of RJTT Tokyo Haneda International Airport. The climb took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 40 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,040 feet above sea level to 20,627 feet above sea level, an increase of 19,587 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 9 miles north east of Ito in Shizuoka, Japan. This phase lasted for 12 minutes and covered a distance of 149 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 11 miles east of Owase in Mie-ken, Japan. The descent took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 60 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 20,722 feet above sea level to 1,011 feet above sea level, a decrease of 19,710 feet.
The final approach to runway 15 at RJBD Nanki Shirahama Airport was made from the north west, with the aircraft heading 144.0 degrees at an altitude of 705 feet above ground level and a distance of 2 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 15, which had a length of 1,991 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 138 knots.
The touchdown point was 103 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 126 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -286 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 100 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 8 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,316 meters, which accounted for 66% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 255 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 48 minutes. The aircraft used 2,907 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at RJBD Nanki Shirahama Airport, achieving a score of 96.5%. The final approach was conducted from the north-west, heading 144.0° at 2 nautical miles and 705 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 15, which has a length of 1,991 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 138 knots. The touchdown point was 103 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 126 knots was considered good, and the touchdown rate of -286 feet per minute (fpm) was fair.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and wind speeds of 11 knots at 100°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,316 meters, which is 66% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled descent during the landing roll.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and stability during the final approach and landing phases.
