Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,936 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,936 m of the 2,997 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 790 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 19L at YBBN Brisbane International Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,126 meters, which is 60% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 179 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 210 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 11 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile north of Pinkenba, and climbed from an altitude of 1,042 feet above sea level to 30,526 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,484 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 121 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 22 miles north of Jandowae and lasted for 240 minutes, covering a distance of 1,759 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from an altitude of 31,461 feet above sea level to 35,375 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,914 feet, in 5 minutes and covering a distance of 40 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started again, this time from an altitude of 35,375 feet above sea level, and lasted for 51 minutes, covering a distance of 385 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 50 miles southwest of WAPU Kufar Airport Padasuka, and the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,364 feet above sea level to 1,343 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,021 feet, in 21 minutes and covering a distance of 112 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 27 at WADD Ngurah Rai International Airport was made from the east, heading 268.0 degrees, at an altitude of 1,304 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 27 was successful, with a touchdown point 372 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 136 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was also good at -176 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.7 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 250 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 8 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,854 meters, which is 62% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 2,428 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 356 minutes. The aircraft used 8,500 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at WADD Ngurah Rai (Bali) International Airport, achieving a score of 90.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 268.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,304 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft landed smoothly on runway 27, which has a length of 2,997 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 145 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown point was 372 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the designated area but still within a safe distance. The touchdown speed of 136 knots was also within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -176 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from 250°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the approach. The total landing distance of 1,854 meters was 62% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed with good control and precision, and the aircraft came to a stop safely on the runway. However, the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position by 6.7 meters from the centerline is an area for improvement.
