Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 6,253 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,253 ft of the 9,812 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,566 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 22 at KHOU William P Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas. The takeoff distance was 4,602 feet, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 71°F and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 180°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 4 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile southwest of KHOU William P Hobby Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,045 feet above sea level to 36,120 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,075 feet, in 19 minutes and covering a distance of 113 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 3 miles south of Buffalo, Texas, and lasted for 18 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 126 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 2 miles southwest of 8XS6 Mc Manus Field Tioga, Texas, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 36,082 feet above sea level to 2,900 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,182 feet, in 24 minutes and covering a distance of 119 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35R at KOKC Will Rogers World Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 0.0° at an altitude of 1,613 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 35R, which had a length of 9,812 feet. The threshold height at 65 feet above ground level was above the target, while the threshold speed was well above the target at 151 knots.
The touchdown point was 1,212 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 140 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -103 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 66°F and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 50°. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the headwind was 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 5,999 feet, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 366 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 85 minutes. The aircraft used 9,086 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at KOKC Will Rogers World Airport on runway 35R. The final approach was initiated from the south, with the aircraft heading 0.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,613 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed with a runway length of 9,812 feet, which provided a sufficient margin for the aircraft to touch down safely.
Upon reaching the threshold, the aircraft's height was above the target at 65 feet agl, indicating a slight overshoot. However, the threshold speed was well above the target at 151 knots, which is a positive indication of the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the approach. The touchdown point was located 1,212 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance but still within the acceptable range.
The touchdown speed of 140 knots was slightly faster than the target, but the touchdown rate of -103 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, which is a critical factor in ensuring a safe and stable landing. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 66°F and a light wind of 3 knots at 50°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
The total landing distance of 5,999 feet was 61% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed safely and efficiently, with the aircraft coming to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
