Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,706 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,706 m of the 4,065 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 543 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300, then departed from runway 24 at UUWW Vnukovo International Airport. The takeoff distance was 942 meters, which accounted for 27% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 170 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of -8°C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 250°.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb from 1,690 feet above sea level (asl) to 4,997 ft asl, an increase of 3,307 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. This climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which started 2 miles south of Aprelevka and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb phase from 4,994 ft asl to 6,002 ft asl, an increase of 1,009 feet in 2 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles.
The flight continued with a series of level cruises and climbs, with notable segments including a climb from 6,889 ft asl to 38,116 ft asl, an increase of 31,227 feet in 14 minutes, covering 94 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a prolonged level cruise phase, lasting 97 minutes, covering 698 nautical miles. As the flight progressed, the aircraft began its descent from 38,256 ft asl to 10,684 ft asl, a decrease of 27,572 feet in 18 minutes, covering 104 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35R at LTFM İstanbul Airport was made from the south, heading 359.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,402 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was successful, with a touchdown point 126 meters beyond the touchdown zone. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 136 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -257 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 1,625 meters, accounting for 40% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes, covering 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 991 nautical miles, taking 166 minutes, and the aircraft used 17,911 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at LTFM İstanbul Airport, with a final approach score of 98.7%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 359.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,402 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on runway 35R, which has a length of 4,065 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 142 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the final approach. However, the touchdown point was 126 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight overestimation of the aircraft's distance to the runway.
The touchdown speed of 136 knots was a little fast, which could have contributed to the aircraft's slightly misaligned touchdown position, being 3.1 meters off the centerline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 9 knots at 80°, may have played a role in the aircraft's performance during the landing. The crosswind component of 9 knots and the headwind component of 1 knot were relatively moderate, but still required the pilot to make adjustments to maintain control of the aircraft.
Despite the slight misalignment, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. The total landing distance of 1,625 meters was 40% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. Overall, the landing was successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft during the final approach and rollout phases.
