Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,353 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,012 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The 2.43 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Dublin Airport, taking approximately 8 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 28R, with a takeoff distance of 490 meters, which accounted for 16% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was recorded at 99 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 9 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 19 knots at 239 degrees. The crosswind component was 11 knots, while the headwind component was 16 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile north of Dublin Airport and ascending from 1,241 feet above sea level to 17,607 feet, an increase of 16,366 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 22 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 1 mile north of Clogherhead and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 81 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, beginning 2 miles northwest of Cairnryan and descending from 17,448 feet to 1,304 feet, a decrease of 16,143 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 61 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Glasgow International Airport, it began its final approach to runway 23 from the northeast, heading 226.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,270 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on runway 23, which had a length of 2,353 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 91 knots.
The touchdown point was 559 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 56 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown rate was very hard, at -553 feet per minute. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 12.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 10 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 34 knots at 229 degrees, with a crosswind component of 2 knots and a headwind component of 34 knots.
The total flight distance was 170 nautical miles, taking approximately 57 minutes to complete, and the aircraft used 245 kilograms of fuel during the journey.
The Vision Jet aircraft successfully landed at EGPF Glasgow International Airport, achieving an overall score of 81.7%. The final approach to runway 23 was initiated from the north east, with a heading of 226.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,270 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with a threshold speed of 91 knots being considered good. However, the touchdown point was located 559 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 56 knots was also deemed good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control and managed the aircraft's descent effectively.
Despite the successful touchdown, the landing was marred by a very hard touchdown rate of -553 feet per minute. This indicates that the aircraft's descent was not as smooth as it could have been, potentially causing some discomfort for the passengers and crew. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 12.5 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight miscalculation of the aircraft's position or a minor deviation from the intended flight path.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 10°C and a wind speed of 34 knots from a direction of 229°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 34 knots, which may have contributed to the aircraft's descent rate and touchdown position. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of the touchdown rate and runway alignment.
