Improve the rollout
Ground control varies with speed, full authority at walking pace, progressively reducing as groundspeed rises. The aircraft becomes twitchy at any speed, every small pedal input swings the nose, which can encourage large-amplitude leg inputs that no real aircraft would accept.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,318 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,318 ft of the 5,980 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,366 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 16 at Wellington International Airport, with the Boeing 737-700 aircraft taking off after a distance of 2,741 feet, which was 46% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 148 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 54 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 12 knots at 234 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 8 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb from 1,018 feet above sea level to 25,808 feet above sea level, an increase of 24,790 feet in just 9 minutes, covering a distance of 20 nautical miles. The climb was initiated overhead Wellington International Airport. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 6 miles north-west of Paraparaumu Airport and lasted for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 118 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent from 25,691 feet above sea level to 24,806 feet above sea level, a decrease of 884 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles. This descent was initiated 8 miles north of Porirua. The aircraft continued to alternate between level cruise and descent phases, with each phase lasting for varying durations and covering different distances.
One of the notable descent phases occurred from 24,843 feet above sea level to 2,926 feet above sea level, a decrease of 21,917 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 65 nautical miles. This descent was initiated 6 miles north-west of Turangi. The aircraft also experienced a brief level cruise phase 2 miles north of Ruatoria Airfield, lasting for 2 minutes and covering 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25 at Tauranga Airport was initiated from the east, with the aircraft heading 274.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 245 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the touchdown point being 1,014 feet beyond the touchdown zone. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 130 knots, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 38 feet from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 56 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 2 knots at 316 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 5,066 feet, which was 85% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 38 feet from the centreline.
Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 239 nautical miles, taking 66 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,872 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at Tauranga Airport (NZTG) on runway 25, achieving an overall score of 87.5%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 274.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 245 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 133 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 1,014 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the expected area. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was a bit faster than the desired speed, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing parameters. However, the touchdown rate of -152 feet per minute (fpm) was within the acceptable range, indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 38 feet from the centreline, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 56°F and a gentle wind of 2 knots at 316°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 1 knot each.
The total landing distance of 5,066 feet was 85% of the available runway length, which is a relatively efficient use of the runway. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 38 feet from the centreline, which may have been a result of the initial touchdown position. Overall, the landing was successful, but there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and alignment.
