Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,370 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 337 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KFAT Fresno Yosemite International Airport. This process took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 29R, and the aircraft lifted off at a speed of 148 knots, covering a takeoff distance of 1,409 meters, which was 50% of the runway length.
As the aircraft climbed out of KFAT, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of the airport and reaching an altitude of 37,983 feet above sea level. This climb, which covered a distance of 119 nautical miles, took 22 minutes and resulted in an increase of 36,640 feet in altitude. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 23°C.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 17 miles southeast of Coaldale Coaldale Junction in Nevada. This phase lasted for 36 minutes and covered a distance of 275 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles northwest of Bagdad Airport in Arizona and descending from 38,086 feet to 4,395 feet above sea level. This descent, which covered a distance of 112 nautical miles, took 21 minutes and resulted in a decrease of 33,691 feet in altitude.
The aircraft then underwent another climb, starting 4 miles south of Fountain Hills in Arizona and reaching an altitude of 4,794 feet above sea level. This climb, which covered a distance of 5 nautical miles, took 2 minutes and resulted in an increase of 472 feet in altitude. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 4 miles south of Somerton Airport in Arizona and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles southwest of Falcon Field in Arizona and descending from 4,174 feet to 2,176 feet above sea level. This descent, which covered a distance of 8 nautical miles, took 3 minutes and resulted in a decrease of 1,998 feet in altitude.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25L at KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, approaching from the east at a heading of 270.0°. However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at 397 feet above ground level due to an unknown reason. The aircraft then landed on runway 25L, which had a length of 2,370 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 134 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 334 meters, but the touchdown speed of 127 knots was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -479 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 33°C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 273°.
The total landing distance was 1,368 meters, which was 58% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centerline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 1 minute and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 544 nautical miles, and the flight took 117 minutes to complete. The aircraft used 4,509 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed on runway 25L at KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, achieving a score of 94.1%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,043 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 134 knots, which was slightly above the target threshold speed. However, the touchdown distance of 334 meters was considered good. The touchdown speed of 127 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -479 feet per minute (fpm) was hard, indicating a relatively steep descent.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.4 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the slightly misaligned runway rollout alignment of 8.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 33°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 273°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,368 meters was 58% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a good touchdown distance and a relatively short total landing distance. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and alignment, which may be addressed in future training or operations.
