Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,855 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 309 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight on the Boeing 737-600 began at ZSNJ Nanjing Lukou International Airport. The taxi from the parking area to the runway took 4 minutes, covering 1 nm. The departure was from runway 24, with a takeoff distance of 1,020 m, which was 28% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 kt, and the local weather at the time was 38 °C with a light wind coming from 280° at 3 kt, resulting in a crosswind of 2 kt and a headwind of 2 kt.
The enroute climb started over Nanjing, climbing from 1,043 ft to 40,859 ft, covering a total distance of 278 nm in 41 minutes. The level cruise portion of the flight started near Qingdao, lasting 110 minutes and covering 1,259 nm. The subsequent descent began near Bogorodskoye Airport in Russia, descending from 40,437 ft to 13,820 ft over 7 minutes and covering 45 nm.
After a brief 2-minute level cruise, another descent started near Nikolayevsk-na-Amure Airport, descending from 13,820 ft to 1,626 ft over 5 minutes and covering 20 nm. The final approach to runway 11 at UHNN Nikolayevsk-na-Amure Airport had a good threshold height, and the landing occurred smoothly on the 1,855 m runway. The touchdown speed was a bit fast at 123 kt, with a decent rate of -259 fpm. The total landing distance was 814 m, which was 44% of the runway.
After a quick taxi back to the parking area, the total flight distance was 1,610 nm, with a total flight time of 171 minutes. The aircraft consumed 8,103 kg of fuel during the journey. The overall flight was conducted safely and efficiently, with smooth takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, and landing phases.
The Boeing 737-600 aircraft successfully landed at UHNN Nikolayevsk-na-Amure Airport, showcasing a high level of precision and control. The final approach to runway 11 from the west, heading 95.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,437 feet above ground level (agl), demonstrated a well-executed approach procedure.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 123 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. However, the touchdown distance of 309 meters was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The threshold height was also reported as good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The threshold speed of 132 knots was significantly above the target, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed. Nevertheless, the aircraft's ability to maintain control and stability during the landing was evident in the perfect runway touchdown alignment and rollout alignment.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 14°C and a gentle headwind of 3 knots at 123°. The crosswind was minimal, at 1 knot, which further contributed to the smooth landing. The total landing distance of 814 meters, accounting for 44% of the runway length, was also within acceptable limits.
Overall, the landing of the Boeing 737-600 at UHNN Nikolayevsk-na-Amure Airport was a success, with the aircraft demonstrating a high level of precision and control throughout the approach and landing phases.
