Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,803 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 167 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at Port Hedland International Airport, taking 5 minutes and covering 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A32NX, then departed from runway 32, taking off with a distance of 649 meters, which was 26% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 129 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 36°C, wind speed of 19 knots at 299°, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 18 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Port Hedland International Airport, it reached an altitude of 34,617 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,533 feet from the initial altitude of 83 feet. This climb took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 62 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, flying at an altitude of 34,617 feet for 4 minutes and covering 31 nautical miles.
The flight continued with a series of enroute climbs and descents, with the aircraft reaching altitudes of 40,044 feet and descending to 30,291 feet. The aircraft also entered several level cruises, flying at altitudes of 35,317 feet, 38,792 feet, and 30,003 feet. During these level cruises, the aircraft covered distances of 104 nautical miles, 22 nautical miles, and 48 nautical miles, respectively.
As the aircraft approached its destination, Mount Magnet Airport, it began its final descent, descending from 30,291 feet to 2,845 feet above sea level. This descent took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 64 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, flying at an altitude of 2,845 feet for 4 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 16 at Mount Magnet Airport was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 162.0° at 3 nautical miles and 1,024 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 129 knots and a touchdown distance of 167 meters. The touchdown rate was heavy at -690 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.1 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 41°C, wind speed of 14 knots at 301°, with a crosswind of 8 knots and a tailwind of 11 knots. The total landing distance was 1,025 meters, which was 57% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 9.1 meters from the centreline.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, taking 3 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 468 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 91 minutes. The aircraft used 3,488 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A32NX successfully landed at YMOG Mount Magnet Airport, achieving a score of 90.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 162.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,024 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, ensuring a good threshold height and speed of 130 knots upon touchdown.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a distance of 167 meters, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was also satisfactory. However, the touchdown rate was slightly heavy at -690 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a slightly steeper descent than ideal. This could be attributed to the pilot's decision to prioritize a smooth touchdown over a more gradual descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind and tailwind conditions. The local weather at the time of landing was characterized by a temperature of 41°C and wind speeds of 14 knots at 301°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the tailwind component was 11 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slight misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,025 meters was 57% of the available runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 9.1 meters from the centerline. This may indicate that the pilot did not fully compensate for the crosswind and tailwind conditions during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown rate and runway alignment. The pilot's decision to prioritize a smooth touchdown over a more gradual descent may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate, while the crosswind and tailwind conditions may have affected the runway alignment.
