Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,507 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 515 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 23L at Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL), with a takeoff distance of 1,176 meters, which was 49% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 150 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 11°C temperature and a wind speed of 5 knots at 159 degrees. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot. After departing from Düsseldorf, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took the aircraft up to an altitude of 36,381 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 160 nautical miles and took 25 minutes, with the aircraft increasing its altitude by 35,214 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started overhead Dahlum in Germany and lasted for 53 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 444 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 2 miles east of Przerosl in Poland, where the aircraft started its descent from 35,749 feet to 1,910 feet above sea level. This descent phase took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 95 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 19 at Vilnius International Airport (EYVI). The approach was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 202.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,280 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 19, which had a length of 2,507 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 135 knots.
The touchdown point was 94 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 127 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -410 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 8°C temperature and a wind speed of 15 knots at 229 degrees. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the headwind was 14 knots.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 707 nautical miles, and the flight took 111 minutes. The aircraft used 5,284 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at EYVI Vilnius International Airport, achieving a score of 96.3%. The final approach to runway 19 was initiated from the north, with a heading of 202.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold height, indicating a stable and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 135 knots, which may have contributed to a slightly faster touchdown speed of 127 knots. However, the touchdown point was 94 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown rate of -410 feet per minute (fpm) was considered hard, suggesting that the aircraft may have touched down with a higher than ideal rate of descent.
Despite the slightly faster touchdown speed and harder touchdown rate, the aircraft's runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach to the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 15 knots from a direction of 229°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 14 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 1,098 meters was 44% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 96.3% despite some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown conditions.
