Improve the taxi
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,581 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,581 m of the 2,790 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 406 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The Airbus A321 then departed from runway 24 at Edinburgh Airport (EGPH), with a takeoff distance of 852 meters, which was 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 166 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 25 knots at 230 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 25 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Newbridge, a city in Scotland, where the aircraft climbed from 1,197 feet above sea level to 5,779 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,583 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 4 miles south east of West Calder, a town in West Lothian, Scotland, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles. However, the aircraft then began another climb, this time from 5,794 feet above sea level to 34,169 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,376 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 158 nautical miles. This climb started 7 miles south east of Biggar, a town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
The enroute level cruise resumed 54 miles north east of Flamborough, a town in East Riding of Yorkshire, England, and lasted for 29 minutes, covering a distance of 229 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, starting 10 miles west of Helgoland, a German island in the North Sea. The descent from 33,582 feet above sea level to 1,343 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,239 feet in 20 minutes, covered a distance of 93 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport (EDDH) was made from the north east, with a heading of 230.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 23 was successful, with a runway length of 2,790 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 138 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 408 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 136 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -287 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.2 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 6 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots at 180 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,523 meters, which was 55% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxiing to the parking area took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 515 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 91 minutes. The aircraft used 4,510 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, achieving a high score of 98.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 230.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was recorded at 138 knots, which is within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was slightly faster than desired, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -287 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the final approach. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from 180°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. The total landing distance of 1,523 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and decision-making skills throughout the approach and landing phases. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and alignment during the final approach.
