Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,734 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,734 m of the 2,253 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 198 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 26 at Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport (EPKT). The takeoff distance was 1,417 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 158 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 31°C, with a wind speed of 14 knots at 205°.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of Ozarowice in the Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. The climb took 15 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,974 feet above sea level to 34,281 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,307 feet. The enroute climb covered a distance of 80 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles southwest of Parnica in Zilina, Slovakia. This phase lasted for 86 minutes and covered a distance of 649 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 16 miles northwest of Malfa in Sicilia, Italy. The descent took 20 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 34,702 feet above sea level to 6,543 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,159 feet. The enroute descent covered a distance of 81 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile north of Aidone in Sicilia, Italy. This phase lasted for only 2 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles west of LICE Campo di Volo Cugno Castel di Judica in Sicilia, Italy. The descent took 7 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 6,126 feet above sea level to 1,341 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,785 feet. The final descent covered a distance of 20 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 08 at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (LICC), approaching from the west at a heading of 84.0°. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,301 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold.
The aircraft landed on runway 08 at LICC, with a runway length of 2,253 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 140 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 200 meters, and the touchdown speed was 138 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -540 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, but the runway rollout alignment was significantly misaligned by 36.8 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 24°C, with a wind speed of 14 knots at 50°. The crosswind was 8 knots, and the headwind was 12 knots.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 846 nautical miles, and the total flight time was 143 minutes. The aircraft used 5,565 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, with a score of 85.2%. The final approach to runway 08 was initiated from the west, heading 84.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,301 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 140 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 200 meters and a touchdown speed of 138 knots, both of which were considered good. However, the touchdown rate was quite hard, at -540 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate a slightly aggressive approach. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C and wind speeds of 14 knots at 50°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 12 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
Despite the overall good performance, there was a notable issue with the runway rollout alignment. The aircraft deviated from the centerline by 36.8 meters, which was significantly misaligned. This may indicate a slight deviation in the aircraft's control during the rollout phase, or a possible issue with the aircraft's braking system.
Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 85.2%. However, the hard touchdown rate and significant misalignment during the rollout phase are areas that require attention to ensure a smoother and more controlled landing in the future.
