Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,607 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,607 m of the 3,037 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 861 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, runway 15, the aircraft accelerated down the 806-meter takeoff distance, which represented 29% of the available runway. At a liftoff speed of 140 knots, the aircraft lifted off and began its initial climb. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 14°C and a gentle wind of 7 knots from 283°, contributed to a relatively smooth departure.
As the aircraft climbed to 18,005 feet above sea level, it traversed a distance of 49 nautical miles in 10 minutes, achieving an impressive climb rate of 1,623 feet per minute. The enroute level cruise phase started 1 mile north of Bonndorf, Germany, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering 23 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 18,010 feet, reducing its altitude to 4,378 feet in 8 minutes, while covering 44 nautical miles. The descent phase was followed by a brief level cruise phase overhead Lenningen, Germany, lasting 3 minutes and covering 14 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25 at Stuttgart Airport was initiated from the east, with the aircraft flying at 4 nautical miles from the threshold and 1,142 feet above ground level. The landing was completed on the 3,037-meter runway, with the touchdown point located 440 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 114 knots was slightly above the target, while the touchdown rate of -342 feet per minute was firm. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.1 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance of 1,522 meters represented 50% of the available runway. Following a smooth taxiing phase, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, having completed a total flight distance of 145 nautical miles and consuming 526 kilograms of fuel in the process, which took a total of 36 minutes.
The final approach to runway 25 at EDDS Stuttgart Airport from the east was initiated at 4 nautical miles and 1,142 feet above ground level, heading 254.0°. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold height of 83 feet above ground level, significantly above the target. This resulted in a higher-than-ideal approach path angle, which may have contributed to the subsequent touchdown characteristics.
The aircraft touched down 440 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 114 knots, slightly above the target. The touchdown rate was firm at -342 feet per minute, indicating a controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.1 meters from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path. The threshold speed of 136 knots was well above the target, indicating a high level of energy at touchdown.
The aircraft's rollout was well-aligned with the centreline, and the total landing distance of 1,522 meters was 50% of the runway length. The landing was scored 85.7%, reflecting a satisfactory performance despite some deviations from the target. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 11°C and a light wind of 5 knots from 360°, were conducive to a safe and controlled landing.
