MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,833 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 564 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 18 at SBRF Recife/Guararapes - Gilberto Freyre International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,136 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 151 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 18 knots at 159 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed out of the airport, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of the airport and reaching an altitude of 5,203 feet above sea level. The climb was a steep one, with an increase of 4,157 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, lasting 2 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles, before beginning another climb phase 9 miles southeast of Olinda.
This second climb phase was the most significant, with the aircraft ascending from 5,193 feet to 36,232 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,039 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 109 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off again, this time for 7 minutes, covering 51 nautical miles, before beginning its descent phase. The descent started 113 miles northeast of Cabedelo and took 23 minutes to complete, covering a distance of 126 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 12 at SBFN Fernando de Noronha Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 97.0 degrees at 1 nautical mile and 633 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 12, which had a length of 1,833 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, and the threshold speed was too high at 156 knots. The touchdown point was 120 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 147 knots, which was fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -323 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 99 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 11 knots. The total landing distance was 1,248 meters, which accounted for 68% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 306 nautical miles, taking 61 minutes, and used 2,110 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at SBFN Fernando de Noronha Airport, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 97.0° at 1 nautical mile and 633 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 12, which has a length of 1,833 meters.
However, there were some discrepancies in the landing performance. The threshold height at 73 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been too high during the approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 156 knots, which could have contributed to the aircraft's fast touchdown speed of 147 knots. The touchdown point was also 120 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which may have been due to the high touchdown speed.
The touchdown rate was firm at -323 feet per minute (fpm), which is within a normal range. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a headwind of 11 knots at 99°.
The total landing distance was 1,248 meters, which is 68% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but it is not uncommon for aircraft to use a significant portion of the runway during landing. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there are some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of the threshold height, threshold speed, and touchdown speed. However, the aircraft's performance was still within acceptable limits, and the landing was completed safely.
