Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,285 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,285 ft of the 10,034 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,181 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 06 at KRSW Southwest Florida International Airport. The takeoff distance was 3,724 feet, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 148 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it started its enroute climb from an altitude of 1,087 feet above sea level (asl) to 16,836 ft asl, an increase of 15,750 feet in just 5 minutes, covering a distance of 22 nautical miles. The climb began overhead KRSW Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles northeast of 40FL Fred Babcock Airport in Punta Gorda, Florida, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 36 nautical miles. Following the cruise, the aircraft began its enroute descent from an altitude of 17,667 ft asl to 1,367 ft asl, a decrease of 16,301 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 56 nautical miles. The descent started overhead Wauchula, Florida.
The final approach to runway 35L at KMCO Orlando International Airport was made from the south, heading 359.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on runway 35L, which had a length of 10,034 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 142 knots.
The touchdown point was 805 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 134 knots, which was considered fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -287 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 8 knots at 130 degrees.
The total landing distance was 5,009 feet, which accounted for 50% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 122 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 37 minutes. The aircraft used 3,466 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at KMCO Orlando International Airport on runway 35L. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 359.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, which is a crucial aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the threshold speed was found to be above the target speed, registering at 142 knots. However, the touchdown point was located 805 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft touched down slightly farther down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 134 knots was also found to be faster than desired, which may have contributed to the extended touchdown point.
The touchdown rate of -287 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 81°F and winds of 8 knots at 130°.
The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the tailwind component was 5 knots. The total landing distance of 5,009 feet was 50% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and maintaining good alignment with the runway throughout the rollout phase. However, there were some areas for improvement, such as the touchdown speed and point, which may require further attention to ensure optimal landing performance.
