Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,563 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,563 m of the 2,441 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 393 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Honda HA420 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LOWW Vienna International Airport, taking 13 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 11, with a takeoff distance of 883 meters, which was 25% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 132 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of LOWW Vienna International Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 7°C temperature and a wind speed of 13 knots at 119 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 13 knots. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,625 feet above sea level to 41,681 feet above sea level, an increase of 40,056 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 109 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting 1 mile northwest of Sv. Primoz na Pohorju in Slovenia. This phase lasted for 49 minutes, covering a distance of 304 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 5 miles west of LIWW Campo di Volo San Giorgio Tarquinia in Italy. The descent from 42,554 feet above sea level to 3,703 feet above sea level, a decrease of 38,851 feet in 20 minutes, covered a distance of 100 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 15 miles east of Golfo Aranci in Italy. This phase lasted for only 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 8 miles northeast of Golfo Aranci. The descent from 3,182 feet above sea level to 1,266 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,917 feet in 4 minutes, covered a distance of 11 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at LIEO Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport was made from the northeast, heading 235.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,230 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 23, which had a length of 2,441 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 106 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 391 meters, and the touchdown speed was 89 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was excellent at -86 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 9°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 171 degrees, with a crosswind component of 2 knots and a headwind component of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,487 meters, which was 61% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took only 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 539 nautical miles, taking 110 minutes, and the aircraft used 693 kilograms of fuel.
The Honda HA420 aircraft successfully landed at LIEO Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, achieving a high score of 98.8%. The final approach to runway 23 was conducted from the north east, with a heading of 235.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,230 feet above ground level.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 106 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed. However, the touchdown distance of 391 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 89 knots was also within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate of -86 feet per minute was particularly impressive, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 3.4 meters, but this did not appear to have any significant impact on the overall landing performance. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 9°C and a light wind of 3 knots from a direction of 171°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and the headwind component was even weaker at 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 1,487 meters was 61% of the available runway length, which is a reasonable figure considering the aircraft's performance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the post-landing phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft performing well in terms of speed, distance, and alignment. The slight misalignment of the touchdown position was the only minor issue, but it did not appear to have any significant impact on the overall outcome.
