Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,737 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 330 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight was conducted in an Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen aircraft, a lightweight and versatile plane. The taxiing process from the parking area to the runway took less than a minute and covered a distance of less than a nautical mile. The departure roll began on runway 30 at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport, and the takeoff distance was 113 meters, which accounted for only 4% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 45 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of the flight were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind of 2 knots blowing from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots. The pilot navigated a right-hand pattern entry from runway 30, covering a distance of less than a nautical mile in 52 seconds.
As the aircraft entered the right-hand pattern, it encountered a crosswind from runway 30, which it successfully navigated in 18 seconds. The pilot then executed a pattern downwind turn, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile at an angle of 78.3 degrees to the runway. The downwind leg itself took 56 seconds to complete, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The pilot then initiated a base leg turn, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile at an angle of 86.0 degrees to the runway. The base leg itself took 40 seconds to complete, covering a distance of less than a nautical mile. The final turn was executed in 20 seconds, bringing the aircraft into position for the final approach.
The final approach was conducted to runway 30 at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport, with the aircraft heading 305.0 degrees at an altitude of 0 nautical miles and 99 feet above ground level. The landing was executed successfully, with the touchdown distance being 329 meters, which was well within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed was 24 knots, and the touchdown rate was an excellent -67 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind of 2 knots blowing from a direction of 269 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 368 meters, which accounted for only 13% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
The total flight distance was 4 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 5 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used no fuel during the flight, indicating an extremely efficient operation. Overall, the flight was conducted with precision and control, demonstrating the capabilities of the Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen aircraft.
The Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen, a pioneering aircraft, successfully landed at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport on runway 30. The aircraft approached the runway from the south east, heading 305.0° at an altitude of 99 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The pilot demonstrated excellent control and precision during the final approach, setting the stage for a smooth landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed admirably, with a touchdown speed of 24 knots, which is well within the target range. The touchdown distance of 329 meters was also good, indicating that the pilot had maintained a steady and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -67 feet per minute (fpm) was particularly impressive, showcasing the aircraft's ability to absorb the impact of landing smoothly.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle headwind of 2 knots. The crosswind was minimal, at 1 knot, which further contributed to the successful landing. The runway threshold height of 66 feet agl was above the target, but the pilot expertly navigated the aircraft to ensure a safe and controlled touchdown.
The total landing distance of 368 meters, which accounts for 13% of the runway length, was a testament to the pilot's skill and the aircraft's performance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained control and stability throughout the landing process. Overall, this landing was a demonstration of the Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen's capabilities and the pilot's expertise, showcasing a score of 96.5%.
