Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,303 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 378 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 08L at EDDM Munich Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,337 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 168 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 6°C, with a wind speed of 14 knots blowing at 90 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 14 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of EDDM Munich Airport and reaching an altitude of 14,854 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 26 nautical miles and took 6 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 21 minutes and covered a distance of 129 nautical miles. This phase was followed by another climb phase, which started 2 miles south of Gars am Kamp in Austria and took the aircraft to an altitude of 25,512 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 46 nautical miles and took 7 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 50 nautical miles. This phase was followed by a descent phase, which started overhead Neubuz in the Czech Republic and took the aircraft down to an altitude of 8,710 feet above sea level. This descent phase covered a distance of 62 nautical miles and took 11 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 9 nautical miles. This phase was followed by a descent phase, which started 1 mile south of Polanka Wielka in Poland and took the aircraft down to an altitude of 2,467 feet above sea level. This descent phase covered a distance of 15 nautical miles and took 4 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. This phase was followed by a climb phase, which started overhead Balice in Poland and took the aircraft up to an altitude of 4,698 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 7 nautical miles and took 2 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another descent phase, which started 1 mile east of Zielonki in Poland and took the aircraft down to an altitude of 4,075 feet above sea level. This descent phase covered a distance of 7 nautical miles and took 2 minutes to complete. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another descent phase, which started overhead Sulechow in Poland and took the aircraft down to an altitude of 2,056 feet above sea level. This descent phase covered a distance of 8 nautical miles and took 2 minutes to complete. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25 at EPKK Kraków John Paul II International Airport, flying from the east at a heading of 258.0 degrees and at an altitude of 1,258 feet above ground level.
The aircraft landed on runway 25, which had a length of 2,303 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 136 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 379 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -401 feet per minute, but
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at EPKK Kraków John Paul II International Airport, achieving a high score of 97.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 258.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,258 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 25, which has a length of 2,303 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 136 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown distance of 379 meters was also good, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down within a safe distance from the runway threshold.
However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly faster than the recommended speed, which may have contributed to a harder touchdown rate of -401 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 1°C and a wind speed of 12 knots from a direction of 70°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 12 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's performance during the landing phase. However, the pilot was able to manage the aircraft's speed and direction to achieve a safe touchdown.
The total landing distance of 1,061 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop quickly and safely after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the Airbus A320's landing at EPKK Kraków John Paul II International Airport was a success, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 97.3%. The pilot's skills and experience were evident in the precision and control demonstrated during the final approach and landing phases.
