Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,825 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 303 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight took off from Boca Raton Airport's runway 05 in a PC-12 aircraft. The departure was smooth with a takeoff distance of 202 meters, which is 13% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 85 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 0 knots with a direction of 179 degrees.
After departing Boca Raton Airport, the aircraft climbed from 3,280 feet above sea level to 9,497 feet above sea level, a gain of 8,415 feet. This climb took 6 minutes to accomplish, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The enroute climb started 1 mile southwest of Highland Beach, Florida.
Next, the aircraft began its descent from 8,725 feet above sea level to 1,927 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,798 feet in 2 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 2 miles northwest of Boynton Beach, Florida. The aircraft then transitioned to a steady-state climb, but then began another descent, this one from 1,914 feet above sea level to 434 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,480 feet in 3 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 4 nautical miles.
After the last descent, the aircraft began a right-hand pattern entry over North Lauderdale, a maneuver that requires a precise distance and angle to set up for landing. The pilot successfully achieved a right-hand pattern entry, navigating this critical phase in 13 seconds.
The aircraft proceeded to fly the pattern, executing turns and leg changes to line up with the runway. Downwind, base, and final turns were completed successfully, with the final approach initiated at 1 nautical mile from the runway, heading east at 247 degrees and 623 feet above ground level.
The aircraft landed on runway 27 at KFXE Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, a relatively short runway of 1,825 meters in length. The pilot reported good threshold height, and the threshold speed was well above target at 91 knots. The touchdown distance was 302 meters, which is a good distance considering the runway length. The touchdown speed was also good at 79 knots.
However, the touchdown rate was slightly above average, coming in at -229 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline. The landing distance, considering the misalignment, was 491 meters, which is 27% of the runway length. After landing, the pilot was able to taxi to the parking area in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile of distance.
The total flight distance covered by the aircraft was 51 nautical miles, taking 28 minutes to complete. The flight also consumed 103 kilograms of fuel.
The recent aircraft landing of a PC-12 at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE) was thoroughly evaluated, with a commendable score of 96.8%. The aircraft's approach to the runway was executed from the east, aligning itself with the runway centerline before touching down on runway 27. This runway is 1,825 meters long, providing the PC-12 with ample space to descend and land safely.
Upon assessing the approach speed, it was found that the threshold speed was significantly above the target speed at 91 knots. This suggests that the pilot maintained a more conservative pace, prioritizing safety over achieving the desired target speed. Furthermore, the landing distance of 302 meters was deemed satisfactory, indicating that the pilot effectively managed the aircraft's descent. The touchdown speed of 79 knots was also found to be within acceptable limits.
However, there were some areas for improvement in this landing. The touchdown rate of -229 feet per minute was considered fair, suggesting that the PC-12 may have landed with a slightly steeper rate of descent than intended. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was found to be 3.1 meters off the centerline, indicating that the pilot may have deviated from the planned approach path.
The local weather conditions on the day of the landing included a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 0 knots. This suggests that the pilot did not face any adverse weather conditions during the approach. The headwind was nil, and the crosswind was also non-existent, providing ideal conditions for a smooth and controlled landing.
In the final phase of the landing, the PC-12's rollout alignment was found to be very good, with the aircraft maintaining a straight course along the runway. Overall, the landing performance of the aircraft was impressive, with the pilot demonstrating excellent control and decision-making skills throughout the entire approach. The score of 96.8% reflects the high standard of the landing, with the pilot successfully navigating the aircraft to a safe touchdown.
