Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,603 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,603 m of the 2,681 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 566 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A350-1000 taxied from the parking area to runway 30L at LEZG Zaragoza Airport in 4 minutes, covering approximately 1 nm.
The aircraft commenced its departure roll on runway 30L, achieving a takeoff distance of 1,328 m (36 % of the runway) and a liftoff speed of 165 kt; ambient temperature was 28 °C with a wind of 1 kt from 359°, a cross-wind component of 1 kt and a head-wind component of 1 kt.
Climb began 2 mi west of LEZG, with the airplane ascending from 1,835 ft asl to 38,000 ft asl, an increase of 36,165 ft, over 26 minutes while covering 183 nm.
Cruise was initiated 7 mi south-east of el Besos i el Maresme and continued for 50 minutes, during which the flight covered 406 nm at level altitude.
Descent started 1 mi west of Piazza al Serchio-San Michele, descending from 37,991 ft asl to 1,251 ft asl, a loss of 36,740 ft, in 22 minutes and over a distance of 135 nm.
The final approach to runway 31 at LIPR Federico Fellini International Airport was flown from the south-east on a heading of 308.0 deg at 4 nm and 1,200 ft agl.
Landing on runway 31 was executed with a threshold speed of 138 kt; touchdown occurred 153 m beyond the touchdown zone at 135 kt, with a smooth touchdown rate of minus 144 fpm and a lateral deviation of 3.2 m from the centreline. Local weather reported a temperature of 22 °C, wind 1 kt from 0°, cross-wind 1 kt and head-wind 1 kt.
Runway rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,525 m, representing 57 % of the runway, and alignment during rollout was recorded as very good.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 3 minutes, traveling less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 732 nm, lasted 108 minutes, and consumed 11,908 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A350-1000 executed the final approach to runway 31 at LIPR Federico Fellini International Airport from the south-east, tracking a heading of 308.0° at 4 nm and 1,200 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At threshold the aircraft established a good threshold speed of 138 kt and the flare commenced, resulting in touchdown 153 m beyond the designated touchdown zone.
Touchdown occurred at a speed of 135 kt, noted as a little fast, with a smooth vertical rate of minus 144 fpm. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 3.2 m from the centreline, and the total landing distance measured 1,525 m, representing 57 % of the 2,681 m runway. Ambient conditions were 22 °C with wind 1 kt from 0°, including a 1 kt crosswind and a 1 kt headwind.
Runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied off the runway without incident.
Minor refinements are advised: reduce the touchdown speed to the target VREF to eliminate the slight excess, and centre the touchdown point more precisely on the runway centreline to improve alignment consistency.
