Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,123 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 174 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by Vueling, with the aircraft registration EC-MGZ. The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took approximately 8 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 24 at Paris-Orly Airport (LFPO), with a takeoff distance of 2,138 meters, which accounted for 64% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 162 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 106°. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Chilly-Mazarin in the Ile-de-France region of France. The climb took 19 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,290 feet above sea level to 33,784 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 110 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 79 minutes and covered a distance of 565 nautical miles. This phase began approximately 1 mile north-east of Hambers in the Pays de la Loire region of France. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 1 mile north-west of Ovar in the Distrito de Aveiro region of Portugal. The descent took 5 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 33,881 feet above sea level to 24,254 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 43 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 12 nautical miles. This phase began 2 miles north-west of Condeixa-a-Nova in the Distrito de Coimbra region of Portugal. The aircraft then began its descent once again, starting 4 miles east of Pombal in the Distrito de Leiria region of Portugal. The descent took 17 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 23,721 feet above sea level to 7,724 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 58 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 24 nautical miles. This phase began overhead A dos Cunhados in the Distrito de Lisboa region of Portugal. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting overhead LPSV Pista de Valada do Ribatejo Salvaterra de Magos in the Distrito de Santarem region of Portugal. The descent took 9 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 7,706 feet above sea level to 1,628 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 20 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 20 at Lisbon Portela Airport (LPPT) was made from the north, with a heading of 203.0° and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the threshold. The aircraft landed on the runway, with a touchdown distance of 174 meters and a touchdown speed of 135 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -298 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 15 knots at 280°. The aircraft then taxied to the parking, which took approximately 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 841 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 150 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5,779 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
Aircraft Vueling EC-MGZ successfully landed at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) with a score of 95.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 203.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,273 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 15 kt from 280°.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 138 kt, which was within the acceptable threshold speed. The touchdown distance of 174 meters was also within the expected range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown rate of -298 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the pilot could have maintained a more gradual descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline. The local weather conditions, including a 14 kt crosswind and a 3 kt headwind, did not appear to significantly impact the landing. The total landing distance of 1,207 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment with the runway centerline was slightly off by 9.8 meters. This minor deviation may have been due to the pilot's attempt to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and precision throughout the approach and landing phases.
