Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 6,544 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,544 ft of the 10,560 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,571 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 04 at KHOU William P Hobby Airport. The takeoff distance was 4,200 feet, which accounted for 55% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 153 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 83 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 3 knots at 90 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was also 2 knots. The enroute climb began 1 mile west of South Houston, Texas, and the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,175 feet above sea level to 37,617 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,442 feet, in 22 minutes and covering a distance of 124 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile south of TA55 Del Valle Airport in Del Valle, Texas, and lasted for 96 minutes, covering a distance of 640 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 2 miles north of Willcox, Arizona, and descended from 38,118 feet above sea level to 2,424 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,694 feet, in 24 minutes and covering a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 270.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,291 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 26 was successful, with the touchdown point being 1,227 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was slightly above target at 143 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -289 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 15 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 94 degrees Fahrenheit. The total landing distance was 6,300 feet, which accounted for 60% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 899 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 162 minutes. The aircraft used 13,946 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX) on runway 26. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,291 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was evaluated, and it scored an overall rating of 88.2%.
The aircraft's approach to the runway was satisfactory, with the threshold height being above the target at 70 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 143 knots, indicating a minor deviation from the optimal speed. The touchdown point was located 1,227 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may be attributed to the aircraft's slightly fast touchdown speed of 135 knots.
The touchdown rate of -289 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep. Nevertheless, the touchdown speed was a little fast, which may have contributed to the touchdown point being beyond the designated zone. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 15 feet from the centerline, indicating a minor deviation from the optimal alignment.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a high temperature of 94°F, which may have affected the aircraft's performance. Despite this, the total landing distance of 6,300 feet was within 60% of the runway length, indicating a relatively smooth and controlled descent.
The runway rollout alignment was evaluated as very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied effectively and the aircraft was brought to a stop in a stable and controlled manner. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with some minor deviations from the optimal performance.
